1993 Ford Mustang LX 3.5 from North America

Summary:

Most reliable car I have ever had

Faults:

Electric door lock on the driver's side no longer works.

General Comments:

It handles well in the snow with a little weight in the back, have had only all season tires, never used studded tires.

The heater could be warmer in very cold weather. But it is still comfortable.

Was that a 3.5 litre in a ford. Are you sure about that?

1993 Ford Mustang LX Hatch 5.0 HO from North America

Summary:

Cheap performance with style

Faults:

Nothing major, out of all 3 Mustangs I've had too.

Had to have the outer tie rods replaced, but was 100% my fault for messing them up.

Couple rattles and things here and there, but it's a Mustang, not grandma's grocery getter.

General Comments:

This is my 3rd fox body Mustang (79-93) and I love them. Car is pretty fast from the factory and very easy to make go faster and run better. I would prefer the smoke gray cloth and the styling of the 87-93 over a new car any day.

1993 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 from Belgium

Summary:

The last year of a truly classic car that set the standard for affordability and performance

Faults:

There hasn't been much wrong with this car. Other than replacing a set of tires and regular maintenance this has been a true dream car.

At 2850 pounds this car is amazingly fast. Nothing like the distinctive sound of it's dual exhaust to make heads turn.

General Comments:

The interior on this car is somewhat confined but this car was never meant to carry a family of five.

1993 Ford Mustang LX 5.0L V8 from North America

Summary:

The ultimate driving experience

Faults:

No major mechanical problems over the past 6 years of ownership.

Leather seats and convertible top are just starting to show signs of wear and tear.

Went through a lot of tires in those first couple of years!!

General Comments:

I personally believe that the Ford Mustang 1987-1993 was one of the best "bang for your buck" deals that has ever been manufactured. These cars were quick stock, but are almost unstoppable once they are modified.

Modifications to these cars is so simple and inexpensive. Try to modify a Chevrolet 350 and a 5.0/302 and see which costs you more.

They have an unmistakable sound and clarity that every Mustang fan can recognize.

It is the best car I've ever owned and I don't ever plan on selling it.

It said your previous car was a Pontiac Formula? What year model was that car, and which one has the best power, handling, speed, etc? The Pontiac or the Mustang?

1993 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 from North America

Summary:

This car today would cost 23K - I bought it for 12,500. Need I say more?

Faults:

Driver's 6 way power seat electrical short - 25K.

Hatch-back lock - 15K.

Water pump - 40K.

General Comments:

3K oil changes and 6K services are the key. The engine is just settling in and is stronger than ever.

This car is beauty and the beast. It has never let me down.

Ah, but everything sparkles when a Mustang owner brings her aura to visit. It is clean, bright, engaging, bold, American...

1993 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 from North America

Summary:

Good looking, but can't compete with '93 Z28

Faults:

Replaced starter, alternator, and A/C compressor before 90,000 miles.

Leaking weather stripping around both doors.

No problems with the engine or transmission, they are very tough.

General Comments:

Completely stock, mine would smoke most pre-1993 Camaro V8's. If you are considering buying a GT based on performance, don't do it! Although it was a blast to drive, I regretted not getting a '93 or newer Z28. Why waste your money on aftermarket parts, when you can buy a Z28 with 275 hp stock?

You are completely incorrect about the horse power drop.. The hyper pistons are actually lighter, just not able to handle the stress of detonation enough. The reason for the "horsepower drop", Ford change the way they rated the engine that year, with all the accessories on. Basically running the test with the A/C on, 1993 makes the same horsepower/torque as the 87-92 models.

The rating system did differ that year and the 205 rating was actually the same power and performance as the 225 of the previous years back to '87. One theory for this was Ford wanting to make the Cobra look better with it's 235 hp rating. A 10 hp gain didn't justify the cost increase of the special edition car. They also probably wanted the new '94 to appear better with it's 215 hp rating as it was the new thing in that day!

I can say, having owned an'89 5.0 5-speed convertible, a '91 LX5.0 auto, and a 93 LX5.0 5-speed, that there is hardly any variation in performance between the HP ratings. The only noticeable difference is between the heavier '89 convertible, and the '93 having no cats and flow-masters, the unmodified '91 automatic seemed to fall respectively in-between the two in terms of performance.

1993 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 from North America

Summary:

100 percent satisfaction

Faults:

Clutch, at 70k.

Heater core (out when I purchased the car).

General Comments:

Absolutely love the car, very fast, good fuel economy (stock) and awesome sound exhaust system.

Easy to work on and boost the horse power, recommend changing stock 2.73 gears to at least 3.55 along with a air cleaner and underdrive pulley upgrade :)

1993 Ford Mustang Cobra 5.0 Liter 302 from North America

Summary:

Tough!

Faults:

Mass air meter when the first owner had it; it was a week old.

General Comments:

Built Ford Tough. I have been nothing but hard on it and it has taken it. I even hit a deer at 50 mph and believe it or not, it did not put one scratch on it, just blood.

1993 Ford Mustang Cobra 5.0 from North America

Faults:

Oil pressure sending unit @ 32,000 mi.

General Comments:

Absolutely the best car I have driven. Sure beats the new modular Mustangs. Pulls down 24 mpg and runs the quarter in 13.45 @ 103.5 mph.
