2000 Ford Mustang 3.8 V6 from North America

Summary:

I love my car!

Faults:

I haven't had any problems.

General Comments:

This car has always performed its best when I needed it to. Its acceleration is wonderful for a V6, and reaching high speeds is not a problem at all.

It handles amazingly well. Turning a tight corner or moving within a small space is easy.

The interior is wonderful as well. It's smooth, easy to clean, and extremely comfortable. Everything is easily accessible and easy to operate.

2000 Ford Mustang LX 3.8L OHV from North America

Summary:

Unbeatable performance for the money

Faults:

Drivers side seat belt has worn in one spot.

Faulty alternator at 45,000 miles.

Small coolant leak at 50,000 miles, but it was very easy to fix.

General Comments:

This car has the best power-to-weight ratio in its price bracket, bar none. No import even comes CLOSE to its 220 ft-lbs of torque.

The front seats are supportive enough for spirited driving, but can get tiring after a few hours.

This car is quick, stops well with its four-wheel disks, and can take a corner pretty well, too.

Exterior styling: love it or hate it, but most people I meet love it.

Because of its numbers, this car gives some serious performance for not much money, but you HAVE to get the manual tranny. The auto is unresponsive and the drive ratio is way too long.

The interior seems cheap to me, it is my main complaint with the Mustang.

Being a previous Honda owner, I was surprised by how few problems a Ford gave me. Also amazed by how much faster a 3.8L V6 is than the 1.8L I4 in my Integra.

If you're willing to spend a few hundred bucks on some flow-through mods (exhaust and intake) you can get serious performance increases (I got 30 horse and 15 torque).

I own a Mustang LX. I have this to say:

The Mustang is a cheap car. It's got a lot of torque so it feels fast. It's got more horsepower than any other stock car under $20k. It also ways around 3500lbs.

Add this all together and you better not race a Hyundai Accent to 40mph unless you've got some impressive mods, because even if the Accent doesn't blow you away, the Accent driver will give you an inquisitive look as he keeps pace with you. It's only once your in 3rd gear at about 3500rpm that you really start to get enough power to overtake the Accent. You can tap the throttle and power-shift all you want, but even a Toyota can beat out a mustang LX!!

0-60 is what counts in every day driving. The Mustang LX unmodified takes over 8 seconds. In sum, the car looks fast and feels fast, just don't expect to go fast.

2000 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 from North America

Summary:

Ford, you let me down

Faults:

Engine blown at 60,000

Rear shot at 30,000

Oxygen sensor replaced 2 times

I loved my 87 GT, (110,000 miles), but this car is not well made, and the 4.6 is known to run hot, real hot. I have dumped over $5,000 into this car, and am stuck with it for at least 6 more months, I will never get that money back. Looks great, still gives me grins, but a muscle car made of anything but, muscle!!

The dashboard rattles at 40mph.

The ABS hasn't worked since the warranty ran out.

The driver's window doesn't roll back up if raining though it will immediately after the rain.

General Comments:

The 2000 Ford Mustang is seriously over priced and worthless.

2000 Ford Mustang V6 3.8L V6 from North America

Summary:

Best car for under $18,000

Faults:

I had one problem at about 22,000 miles on the car. Theft system was activated. I don't know how, I came home one day, parked the car, and next time I tried to start it, it wouldn't start, because theft system blocked everything on the car.

Other than that, I didn't have any problems.

General Comments:

I think Mustang V6 is best car for under $18,000. Engine isn't that powerful, I think 3.8L V6 should produce more power (at least 220-230 hp).

Nice exterior makes car even more popular. Interior is a bad point of this car, but once you start driving you don't notice that anymore.

It's very fun to drive, especially if it is 5-speed.

Gas mileage is OK, 20 in the city and 26 on the freeway.
