1992 Ford Probe GT 2.2L turbo from North America

Summary:

A great inexpensive sports car to drive, but a costly pain for repairs

Faults:

During my one year of owning this car many things have gone wrong.

I had to replace parts of my manual transmission, a pipe for the coolant, spark plugs, spark plug wires, cylinders, bulbs and speakers. These are the things I have done, but more is needed.

However, I can't do more, but some parts that are broken are: cruise control, some lights, a cracked engine part that rattles at high RPMs, cracked window and the paint is bad.

If you want to buy a Probe, please make sure it is in very good condition or cheap. It will make you broke otherwise.

General Comments:

The car is great to drive and own if it runs good, but since it is not made anymore, and since Ford do not have any extra parts for the Probe either I have had problems with finding parts for it. Also because of that, the parts are very expensive. The Ford dealer is not helpful either.

The Probe is a car that is made up of parts that can not be found in any other car. That is what I have found out lately. For example, my fog light on the driver's side is broken and in 3 months I have not been able to replace the glass that covers the fixture. I am now faced with replacing the whole light fixture instead of one piece of glass.

Most small problems can be fixed by the owner, but it is all tricky and confusing. You have to have an even temper to handle this car during bad times. However, the Probe is great on the road with great lighting, stability and is easy to control. Good luck! You will need it.

I own a 1992 Probe also. It is not a turbo charged model, but with it not being a V6, it is prone to head gasket failure. So watch out for that.

Also, you can find performance parts at nopi.com in its parts catalog.

OK...for those of you who don't know... The "FORD" Probe GT (and only the GT) are made by MAZDA. It is the Same as a Mazda MX-6. I myself hate ford to begin with, but put the blame on mazda.
