1993 Ford Probe 2.5liter from North America

Summary:

Sleek, sexy and quiet!!!

Faults:

Well... just like all other ford probes, the trunk shocks have gone bad. this is my second probe and still the same problem. my first probes transmission started to slip. then it just didn't want to go into third gear. when it rains, you can hardly see anything on the sides of the car. my exhuast fell off when I first got it and the first driver side rotor went bad.

General Comments:

It truly is a spectacular car. the handling is really something else. you wouldn't believe it's a FORD.

It's a beautiful car. all you need are some after market rims and its instantly a head turner.

Great on gas and also very fast. a perfect combo. i wanted this car since I was a kid and now I'm onto my second one!!!

I think people underestimate them because FORD is the manufacure. they have no idea what they are missing. missing.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Hi my name is Jordan Johns and I own a 1993 Ford Probe GT. You are very right when you say that people underestimate the Ford probe, just cause it's a FORD everyone thinks it's slow as crap. And just to let you know you are not alone on your comments. Were I'm from everyone has an import and it is frustrating to hear it's a Ford, they just don't know.

Comment back.

Ford may have made them, but they are closely related to the Mazda 626 and Mazda MX-6.

I agree ford probe's, the engine I made by mazda, my first one was a 94 SE which I threw a T4 turbo on (bad idea), I blew that up, and got an 89 GT, I love the newer body style, but people really do underestimate probes, I toasted an eclipse GT the other day, he laughed at me when I revved it, then I laughed at him when I toasted him... PROBES RULE!!!

He's not comparing a Probe to a Mazda for no reason, the Probe is built by Auto Alliance International. So it is PART Mazda. The mechanicals of a Probe are Mazda built and engineered. So if you really hate Mazda so much and only want American, the Probe isn't really for you.

1993 Ford Probe 2.0 Dual Cam from North America

Summary:

Unreliable at best; $250.00 a month just to keep running!

Faults:

Piece of Trash. In the 3 years I've owned it, It has needed:

A rebuilt engine.

A rebuilt transmission.

A new exhaust system (failed smog again this year, as expected)

4 v-belts.

2 fan belts.

A timing belt.

A water pump.

Battery.

A new Rack and pinion.

Both front axles (they were twisted and one was broken because of the engine torque, so says the mechanic)

4 CV Boots.

Axel shafts.

Brake Calipers.

Valve cover seal.

Starter (this one broke on the lot I was trying to sell it to)

Wheel lugs.

Air Conditioning.

Distributor.

Windshield washer fluid tank.

Fuel injection.

Air Filter Container and more!

General Comments:

Costs average $250.00 a month just to keep running! I have the receipts to prove it.

I never know if it is going to start.

VERY costly to fix because it is a big, unreliable engine in a small compartment!

Every sound I hear I think it is something new going wrong with the car.

The car really does handle like it is on rails, it is very VERY low to the ground. In fact, the guys at the shop are now used to having to lift the car just to put it on their lift and I'm used to it scraping the bottom on all speed bumps.

Very fast take off for stock components (0-60 in 8-9 seconds) however the engine was too strong for the stock axles and broke them.

DO NOT buy a ford probe!

I have owned a sports car, luxury car, van, truck, and sedan all owned by Ford, and all have cost approx. $150.00 a month just to keep running!

My 1986 Toyota Camry with 218,000 miles, ALL original except the cluch and normal maintainence parts (filters, brake shoes etc.), is MUCH more reliable than this 1993, fall-apart probe.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I also own a 1993 Ford Probe with the four cylinder engine and besides some transmission problems around 120,000 miles I've not had any real problems. I think an issue is that people try and drive these cars like they are race cars and then everyone wants to complain when something goes wrong, another thing the car is 13 years old-
