Summary:

I want this car to last a long time

1994 Ford Probe GT 2.6L V6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Curse my gambling-crazed ex-wife for forcing me to sell it to pay her debts to loan shark

Faults:

Ignition leads required replacement at 20,000km Mfr acknowledged problem under warranty.

Developed rattly valve lifters at about 50,000 km because I used AA rather than AAA highest grade lube oil. Didn't know of specific requirement.

General Comments:

Marvellous: loved it. Best csr I ever owned in 45 years. Cornered like it was on rails.

Unbelievably comfortable - after a 2-day 1600 km journey had no aches or back pain.

Loved all the gadgets: cruise control, power seat; full instrumentation instead of dumb lights;

ABS brakes avoided an otherwise certain rear-ender into a sudden stop by a Mercedes-Benz on a wet downhill road.

1994 Ford Probe 4 cylinder. 16v from North America

Summary:

Great value for your $$$

Faults:

Paid $4,500 for the car in 2001, had 1 owner & 7,000 miles on it. Great deal!

Check engine light constantly on. Took it in for a checkup, 3 different mechanics and shops said that the rear exhaust O2 sensor was bad, the catch? There is no rear 02 exhaust sensor in the 94 Ford Probe so the codes are just messed up when the car was built.

Bent the front axle being dumb and drove into a ditch.

Battery replacement 2 times.

BIGGEST MOST AGGRAVATING REPAIR: black trim for the power windows/locks on the doors keeps cracking off & coming unglued. Bought 4 replacements so far.

Driver's side visor mirror gets used a LOT, cover over mirror that is held on by plastic pins broke twice. $120 to fix when I can find one!

General Comments:

Love this car, my biggest complaint is the lack of leg room and the inability to carry 4 normal sized passengers despite the 4 supposed seats.

Hatch has never failed me.

Not real great for speedy highway driving on long trips, but awesome mileage.

1994 Ford Probe Base 2.0 DOCH from North America

Summary:

Not as fast as an Integra, but who cares?

Faults:

Main transmission seal blew out 2 weeks after owning it.

Crankshaft Seal blew out a month after owning it.

Original exhaust finally fell off June 2006.

Oil Dipstick Leaks.

Driver side Seat is worn on the right side edge.

General Comments:

The interior of the car is very nice and roomy.

The repairs are expensive when they have to be done, parts are very hard to find new and are quite expensive.

Excellent looking car for the price, gives the same look and gets the same attention as more expensive sports cars from the same year. Can be made into a nice Tuner Car.

I4 still has pep, however V6 is the way to go as most of the I4 mods have to be custom designed.

1994 Ford Probe GT 2.5L DOHC V6 from North America

Summary:

Great car, if you maintain it. If something is wrong, fix it right away, don't let it sit

Faults:

I bought this car for cheap from a friend because it didn't run. $2300 CAN. Keep in mind I work at a parts store and I get an awesome deal on parts, I do all the work myself and all these prices are in Canadian and before 14% Government/Provincial tax. The kid I bought it from only had it for about 20,000 km, just didn't maintain it.

So, when I bought it.

- Distributor was toast (300)

- 2 front tires were flat, and not holding air (2 day flats) (100 installed and balanced (used) )

- Out of 4 motor/tranny mounts, only 2 of them had all the bolts installed. (couple bucks for high grade metric bolts)

- Valve covers looked as though they had been leaking for a VERY long time. (110)

-Intake manifold needs to be removed to remove valve covers (intake gasket 5-30? can't remember)

- The nut underneath the oil cooler came loose and began spewing pressurized oil on the ground. (new seal and tighten nut, couple bucks)

- The alternator is almost completely toast due to the oil on it from the valve cover leak. (220)

- The battery is toast from not enough alternator output and numerous trickle drains. (100)

-check engine light was on once in a while before I parked the car (I imagine the code would be for the Oxygen sensor (s) (100 ea.)

- Power-steering belt and alternator belts need changing from oil leak. (15-20 ea.)

- Bellows boot kit for the steering rack and pinion looks like it melted. (no longer available through parts stores or dealership, wrecker only)

- there is a thump from the rear, sounds like rear struts or spring mount.

There's probably a few more things, but those are the majors.

General Comments:

- All the power options still work in the car, seats, windows, AC, sunroof, doors.

- Hinges on the doors haven't sagged and body gaps still match up (hood to fender etc)

- Car handles really nicely, a lot better than my YJ, obviously.

- Leather is still in really really good condition for a 12 year old car.

- Quick, but needs fairly high RPM's to get movin.

- Awesome sounding stock exhaust.
