1992 Ford Ranger 3.0 liter from North America

Summary:

Money well spent

Faults:

My clutch went at 50,000 kilometers.

I had to replace my wheel barings at 52,000 kilometers.

My u-joints had to be replaced at 60,000 kilometers.

My slave cylinder started to leak just recently.

The ball joints were also recently replaced.

General Comments:

The Ford Ranger is a tough truck. I do drive mine really hard and does take a hard beating. The interior had stood up very well and there is no rust under the truck. The exterior is in mint condition after being out in Canada's climate. The motor is run well and strong without any problems. there is no lack of power when towing.

1992 Ford Ranger 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Great for an everyday truck

Faults:

Battery Cables at 145,000 miles.

General Comments:

This truck is a really reliable truck. It will run forever if you take care of it and keep up on the oil changes. It's a little slow geared really low. But it always starts when I get in it. Bottom line it's a very good truck. The cab is very spar-tin. not much room for anything.

1992 Ford Ranger XLT 2.2 four cylinder from North America

Summary:

A very good truck for the money!

Faults:

Clutch has been replaced twice. Once when the last owner had it, and again at around 180,000 miles. But this can be expected on a manual transmission.

A/C went out while the truck was still under warranty. It was fixed and there have been no problems since.

General Comments:

Absolutely wonderful first vehicle!

Truck handles very well at high speeds (better than could be expected with an older single cab truck).

Great motor, I have had no problems with anything mechanical on the truck other than the clutch.

Lost my temper and punched a window out (don't recommend anyone doing that).

Has a surprising amount of power for the size motor and you can wind the gears out quite a bit. I'm not suggesting anyone try this, but I've had it up to 85 MPH in third gear-once.

I would recommend this truck to anyone who is just learning to drive or needs a work truck.

1992 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 from North America

Summary:

A solid reliable truck that will last for years

Faults:

Replaced starter at 75000 miles.

Replaced water pump at 135000 miles.

Replaced radiator at 135000 miles.

Repaired air conditioning at 135000 miles.

General Comments:

This is my second Ranger and it is an extended cab 4X4.

Between my family members we have owned four Rangers and never had serious problems with any of them. The truck is extremely reliable and has never left me stranded, although I have had it stuck in mud a couple of times. The performance from the 4.0 V6 is not really that great, but it's fine for me and the transmission has worked fine too. Nothing major has ever gone wrong with the truck after 140000 miles.

1992 Ford Ranger 6 cylinder 2wd from North America

Summary:

Nothing more than a good truck

Faults:

Muffler rusted out twice, but would have only once if I had fixed it right the first time, instead of clamping some crap on -that's it. Replaced a radiator hose, spark plug wires at about 100,000 miles. Changed the oil every 3500 miles. Changed ALL other fluids, including transmission, coolant, brake & clutch, differential.. according to the factory repair manual. Maintenance is the key..

General Comments:

If you are buying a used one, get the 6 cylinder from someone who drove it slowly, and didn't bog it. If you drive these fine Fords that to me represent the first black Fords - it's a good truck you can afford to drive, but don't expect to be hot-rodding around in it... drive it like your mom is in there with you, and it will last you a long time and serve your needs. I don't know how the 4wd models are, but I know the 2wd is probably the best truck in it's class from this time frame (1991-1993.) This truck was a success from Ford. My brothers and I have owned 3 of these (two 6 cylinder models, and one 4 cylinder model.) We think the 6 cylinder models may rival the longevity of a 300,000 mile Toyota, because at 125,000 miles, there isn't a drip on it, no major repairs (and almost no minor ones!)

I bought this truck used at about 95,000 miles and I think it has been absolutley outstanding. It hasn't broken down until the alternator went sour : (. Otherwise 1-10 (10 being the best) id give it an 8.

I got mine up to 350,000+ KM's and drove it nicely.

They WILL last if you want it to.
