1994 Ford Ranger LX 2.3 litre from North America

Summary:

The best truck I ever owned

Faults:

Replaced brake rotors, drums and pads and shoes 135000kms Tuned engine changed all fluids 150000km,

General Comments:

This is the most carefree truck I ever owned, no A/c or power junk to break down. Starts every morning and never gives any trouble. When it comes time to think about another truck, I might just get a body job and paint and drive this truck another 5 years. The 2.3 gives great fuel economy and is cast iron top and bottom so head gaskets are not a issue. Five times the truck my previous GMC Sonoma was. I want to drive this little truck forever.

1994 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Great

Faults:

The crankshaft position sensor at about 60,000 miles and an alternator.

General Comments:

Unbelievably tough! This truck has seen hard service. I do maintain it well, but load it sometimes with cargo amounts that make the mud flaps drag! It now is my teenage son's truck and continues to provide him with trouble free service. I honestly think it will make 200.000 with little effort.

1994 Ford Ranger Supercab 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Great Truck

Faults:

To date I have replaced the starter 98,000 mile;

The clutch master cylinder & clutch 125,000, miles

Replaced the plugs and wires at 150,000 miles.

The transmission 197,000 miles and the brakes three times so far.

The engine developed a lifter tick at 130,000 and has not gotten any worse to date.

At 210,000 the rear shackles broke away from the frame. This is the kind of stuff you see after this long.

I stopped using AMS-OIL in it at 98,000 due to an oil leak and some consumption.

General Comments:

This truck has been a great value. I consistently get 22 miles per gallon. It still has a lot of power considering the abuse I have put it through.

The truck has a lot of room and is great with kids for short rides to school.

It has a good ride and handles very well. It won't take too much overloading.

1994 Ford Ranger xlt 2.3L 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

The truck was comfortable and drove nicely, but didn't have good power or fuel economy

Faults:

The Truck used oil and light rear end slid out from me on a slick road resulting in total wreck.

General Comments:

The gas mileage wasn't as good as I hoped. Really poor power in the 2.3L. Even on dirt roads and in the snow and mud I never got stuck, I'm used to those conditions and I put off road tires with siping to improve traction in the 2wd. It did OK with sand bags in the back during winter. I loved the interior of the extra-cab it was always very comfortable. This truck handled like a car and drove great. My main complaint was that it didn't have good power or good fuel economy.

You expected power from a 2.3? Fuel economy could be fixed with a tuneup probably. You didn't notice the shortage of power during the test drive?

You can't list the rear end being light as a problem with the truck since this a trait common to all trucks.

Its not the truck's fault you don't know how to drive.

1994 Ford Ranger XL Long box 2.3L 4 cylinder. from North America

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with my truck yet, but I will need to get new tires soon. I don't know why, but my ABS doesn, t seem to be working consistently, it skids too much when you hit the brakes too hard. when weight is in the back it is poor in accelerating uphill. It is starting to rust.

General Comments:

It is a great truck if you want reliability and gas efficiency. It is fun to drive and has a nice sized box. It is a very fun truck to drive and is light. You can light up the tires pretty nicely.
