1999 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab 2.5 from North America

Summary:

Overal well balanced work/play truck

Faults:

Transmission synchro for 3rd gear failed at 15,000 miles.

Wipers come on sometimes by themselves.

Has a misfire when cold that 2 separate Ford dealers and myself cannot find.

Suspension squeaks.

Interior lights stay on from time to time.

Rear axle let go at 105,000 miles.

General Comments:

Overall a great truck for the money if your willing to overlook it's quirks.

Truck is a decent commuter with great gas mileage and fine looks. The 4 cylinder model is light on power when there is a load in the bed. My 1993 Ranger with a 4 liter V6 had more then enough power to tackle boats, loads of gravel and hill climbs.

This truck seems to be suffering from gremlins that most other Rangers do not have to deal with.

1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Reliable if you maintain her.

Faults:

Rear Oxygen sensor, 60000

Transmission Pilot Bearing, 128650

Front Brakes Rotors, 131800.

General Comments:

My truck is pretty darned reliable. All I have to do is maintain her regularly. I change her oil every 3000 or 3500 miles and flushed her radiator once. I got her with some seat-springs broken which have made a "hole" on the bottom of the backrest. Cool little pillow and she's good as new! As long as I treat her good (maintenance), She treats me good (runs).

1999 Ford Ranger Sport Stepside XLT 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Great truck, just treat it right!

Faults:

I had a rocky start, first a ball joint went.

Shortly after, the oil started to leak and I had to replace the rear main seal and the oil pan seal.

Finally, the rear brake assembly on the driver's side needed to be replaced.

Overall, I feel most of the problems with the truck were my fault for driving it a little too rough. I have since tamed my driving habits and the truck runs great.

General Comments:

Has a rebuilt title.

Dealer was awesome with repairs and charged me half price on everything he did!

1999 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

My Ranger was a work horse that took plenty of abuse, but is still going strong to this day

Faults:

At 70000 miles a fuse went out that controlled the 4x4 system, easy fix.

At 98000 miles the parking brake got stuck on, the dealer said it was rusted shut due to only using it once every 2 years. I was satisfied with the explanation.

Oh yeah, other people list this as a problem, but free tires at 66000 miles from Ford for the wilderness AT recall was a blessing.

General Comments:

I Drove this truck through college, and I drove it hard. 60 mile a day round trip to my summer work and a long distance relationship helped pile the miles up.

Being in college and the RANGER being my first vehicle I owned, I slacked on all maintenance and it kept going.

On 2 different occasions I drove the vehicle through a 2 state snow/ice storm in 4x4 (over 250 miles) and nothing has ever failed.

Downsides, no cruise control! (my fault) and its kind of noisy at high speeds, otherwise nothing. It took my abuse from 18600 miles to 90000 miles, now my sister owns it and has had no troubles to 110000.

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT Super-cab. I bought it new with 7 miles on it. It now has over 222000 miles on it and nothing has been done to it besides replacing the clutch and slave cylinder at about 110000 miles, and a few emissions components along the way. It still runs and drives very well.

Summary:

Well built and comfortable

Faults:

None so far it has been a super truck.

General Comments:

Of all the GM's I had the only vehicles I found to perform best where fords, and yes I used to hate fords, but to be honest they are the best cars I ever owned.
