2001 Ford Ranger XLT Super Cab 4 door 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Great so far

Faults:

Bought on 1-21-2009.

Gas mileage was approx 8 per gallon. Changed dirty nasty looking plugged up cold air intake filter and replaced with a K & N filter, cleaned mass air flow sensor with CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner, and have run 2 cans of fuel injector thru, and check yesterday, and now it's getting 20 miles per gallon. One great increase. Love it.

2001 Ford Ranger XLT Off Road 4.0 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Just a great little truck with bang for your buck

Faults:

Not much has gone wrong with this truck since I got it. I've replaced the brakes - front and back, the alternator, the tires, the passenger air bag indicator light and had the cruise control serviced under the recall on it. I consider most of those things to fall under general maintenance, and I always use good oil and filters - no cheap stuff.

There have only been a couple of things that I think were outside what I would consider normal. The first was that airbag light, and the second was the door light kept saying that I had a door open when I didn't. It mainly did it when it was cold outside, and my boyfriend replaced the sticky sensor and fixed it.

General Comments:

I bought this truck because it was the cheapest/newest one I could afford at the time, I really wanted a Toyota but they cost too much for me then.

That being said, I have been pleasantly surprised by my Ranger. I have driven it a lot, through all seasons and on lots of different terrain and it takes everything like a champ. It has always been very reliable for me and we've road tripped it many times.

I can also say it's no slump in a race - I have beaten two cars that it technically has no business beating - that 4.0 just roars when I get my foot in it.

Sometimes I think about trading it in now that I can afford it, but then I think why? It does everything I need it to do. The mileage isn't that great - about 20 on the hwy - but I have friends who get worse with their SUVs, and whatever I bought wouldn't get any better, so I keep it.

OK. It's been 3+ years, and I feel it's time for an update: 169,000 miles now. The speedometer has quit working - it's stuck on 50mph - as well as a couple of the dash lights; the one that bugs me the most is the one behind the fuel gauge, which thankfully still works, though it's hard to read at night. My boyfriend replaced one of the dashlights a couple of years ago, but since then, two more have gone out.

When the outside temperature is very cold, the oil pressure gauge needle sticks, and doesn't come up until the truck idles for a couple of minutes.

Other than that, she's still running strong, with another new set of tires and many, many oil changes behind her. I'm still happy with her, and I'm not planning on buying a new truck anytime soon.

2001 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD 2.3L from North America

Summary:

Terrific Little Truck

Faults:

There were no problems with the truck whatsoever.

General Comments:

Stick shift was fun to drive. This little truck had no trouble carrying any load. Traction was a bit lacking in winter, being 2WD. Had to trade it in because of increasing family size.

2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

Built Ford Tuff!

Faults:

Door Ajar light comes on and stays on. It self corrects itself after a few minutes. The horn pretty much completely died. Had to have power steering pump replaced at 45,000ish miles. A week after I bought the truck the belt started squeaking really bad and I've had to changed the belt a few times. The belts don't seem to last long.

General Comments:

It's a great truck. I've taken this truck into some nasty spots and I've laughed at every hill and swamp I've came across. The off road capabilities from this truck were very surprising. The 4x4 is so solid and properly equiped this truck can tear threw almost anything.

I've chipped the engine and put a K&N cold air intake in with a custom true dual exhaust system and this truck sounds awesome and is extremely fast. It tops out at 92 MPH because of the governor (I think it's called). Decided to leave the governor in because with out it I'd probably do something stupid =).

I just wish there were more aftermarket items for these trucks.
