General Comments:

As you can see from the list above this has not been a good car for me it has been one thing after another since I got the car, the last thing for me was the transmission I can't deal with a $3000 repair on a 1993 car, I expected to get close to 200,000 miles from the car and all I've gotten is 122,000 miles and the car is wore out, it needs to be crushed.

1993 Ford Taurus LX 3.8 Liter V6 from North America

Summary:

Deceptively presentable lemon

Faults:

The motor threw a rod and needed replacement.

Tension pulley went bad when it was running.

Previous owner replaced bad heads.

General Comments:

The car was presentable when it ran, but nothing more.

For a six cylinder motor the car was extremely weak for power.

The previous owner sold it because they were tired of replacing everything, coining the phrase "FORD: Fix Or Repair Daily".

The car looked alright and was reliable when I drove it in town - then I made the mistake of going on a 200 mile trip and the motor threw a rod halfway there and stranded me. I will never buy another Ford product again.

I believe the longevity and service satisfaction of any car is part design and part care. I received a 1993 Ford Taurus Wagon for a company car in 1993 and it is in my driveway right now. 390,000 miles (yes, 390 thousand) and two weeks ago I jumped in it to drive 1000 miles to Quebec City. It ran fine the whole trip, averaging 30 mpg.

I have driven this car since new, and keep clean oil, coolant, and ATF in it. Sure, it has had three radiators (but I bought the first one, kept the receipt for the lifetime warranty, and have gotten the next two radiators free-keep the receipt! It pays! A couple alternaters, but they can be changed out in about 30 minutes. A couple power steering lines, but I made those up out of flexible ATF compatible hose.

This has been and continues to be an excellent, unparalleled value of a car.

I do not know your level of automotive expertise, but I personally take an extremely high level of care for all our vehicles. I am fortunate in that my company pays me 50 cents per mile to drive this car, so this Taurus has built my three car garage for me, put a three year old Viper in there next to the Taurus and my old 1982 Olds Cutlass (currently undergoing a body off resto-), paid for college for two of my kids, and keeps me in airplanes and beer.

I cannot say enough good things about this car! In my humble opinion, those who complain the loudest about a car do not know how to care for, nor repair them. I have seen some true junk wearing a Taurus badge, but these were cars that were neglected or owned by people who could only pay to repair them.

1993 Ford Taurus LX 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Nice car to look at, but its JUNK mechanically

Faults:

1) Motor Mounts

2) Water pump

3) Head-Gasket

4) Radiator

5) alternator

6) mysterious check engine light

7) occasional problem with the car not starting in the mornings.

8) driver side door doesn't want to close

9) Headlights fogged

10) power steering pump loud

11) Had the A/C system repaired

12) ford stereo has a short of some sort

13) transmission is about shot, jerky and rough.

General Comments:

Nice care to look at, has plenty of power. However the repairs on this car are unreal Its something every month on this car. I can't wait to get another car and get rid of this I have spent so much money in repairs I could have bought another car, but I kept hoping this would be the last repair for awhile, but it never is. Oh its also a gas guzzler which I expected since it has a V-6 engine. I dread the thought of the transmission repair which I know is right around the corner, since the transmission shifts really rough and jerks to the point where it is scary sometimes.
