2000 Ford Taurus SE 2.4v from North America

Summary:

I will never buy a Ford again

Faults:

Just this evening the transmission just stopped working with no warning. The car only has 56,000 miles and had been very well taken care of and maintained. It left us on the side of the interstate (very unsafe). We has been traveling at 70mph when it just stopped changing gears.

The problem with the brake light coming on occurred 3 times.

Had a tear in a vacuum hose May of 2006 with only

52,000 miles on vehicle.

Vehicle shakes when slowing down from high speeds.

General Comments:

The seats are comfortable, but now that I have a child I feel very cramped in the vehicle and over crowded on long trips.

Ford has never put a 2.4 liter in the Taurus.

2000 Ford Taurus SE - Wagon 3.0 Litre DOHC V6 from North America

Summary:

Good car for the average soccer mom

Faults:

As expected with a car having this many miles, it had some issues. I couldn't beat the price how ever...

1. Rack & Pinion started leaking bad - replaced

2. Rotors where warped - replaced

3. Tires where shot - replaced

4. Drivers seat leather is worn, but not torn - will live with...

The car, while high mileage and needed moderate initial repairs, has been great to us.

It rides smooth, and gets 33mpg through hills!! Plenty of room for 3 car seats in the back.

It just came on with the check engine light and the idle it noticeably rough, but it still runs great, and I think it may have been caused by bad (dirty) gas, the last place we filled up at was... interesting...

Going to reset the cpu tonight and get some injector cleaner for it.

So far I would rate the car about 7.5-8/10.

General Comments:

Smooth ride, impressive gas mileage. Needed some initial repairs, but what do you expect at 170k used from a car rental place...

This is a good car if you're looking for reliable transportation with plenty of room and don't want a van!

Definitely a family car, definitely NOT a sports car.

2000 Ford Taurus SE V6 DOHC from North America

Summary:

I like the Taurus, but will not buy another Ford anytime soon

Faults:

The rotors needed turned at 20000 miles and again at 30000.

The first transmission went at 69000 miles. Replaced the second transmission after only 10 months.

Has a valve rattle when going up hills, no matter how small the grade. Doesn't matter if I use a higher octane gasoline.

Currently has a problem with hesitation and then theft light comes on. Several mechanics cannot diagnose.

General Comments:

Overall, I like the way it rides and handles.

It is spacious enough in passenger area and trunk.

Fuel mileage is good.

Nothing is rusting yet.

2000 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Won't buy another Ford

Faults:

Clutch on air condition broke.

General Comments:

I puchased a 1997 Mercury Sable in January 2006. Five months later the transmission started slipping at 60k miles.

Fortunately the dealer offered to sell me another car. Unfortunately it is a 2000 Taurus SE. Did he really do me a favor?

2000 Ford Taurus SEL 3.0 Duratec DOHC from North America

Summary:

Lemon

Faults:

Burnt valve on cylinder 4, 45000 miles.

Front spring broke, 40000 miles.

Rear strut came loose, 47000 miles.

3 failed DPFE sensors.

Front right wheel bearing failed, 37000 miles.

Trunk assembled crooked.

Car groans with weight in the back seat.

General Comments:

The car handles nicely. It is a smooth ride with plenty of power. The issue is it is broken every other month? No wonder why the warranty was only for 3yr/36K. It starts falling apart after that.

2000 Ford Taurus sel DOHC from North America

Faults:

The car I have has a controlled temperature setting where you set it between 60 degrees and 90 degrees. The problem I'm having is that the air will blow, but there is no heat coming out. No matter what temp it's set at, the air blows cold-is anyone else having this problem? I'm fearing it will be an expensive fix.

I have also had the problem with the engine light coming on. It has been on now for about 5000 miles and I was told this should not cause any major problems.

General Comments:

Overall, I have been satisfied with my vehicle. I will be getting ready to purchase my second set of tires, but otherwise, I have not had any major problems.

If I were you I would check my thermostat. They fail in the open postition and will circulate the coolant before it is warm. This is a cheap fix and something you could do yourself in about 1/2 an hour.
