2001 Ford Taurus LX V6 from North America

Summary:

Not value for money

Faults:

Repairs or replacements to window, defrost, rattles, small rust spot year 4,gas injector, DP-FE, brakes, retractable antenna.

General Comments:

Expensive to own compared to any other car I owned (GM;s) and especially Toyota) and current second car (Toyota).

Ford is advertising its change to “Family Pricing”. Here is what it did for me and my 2001 Taurus. In Oct/04 I had to have the rear brake Pads & rotors replaced. Only 2½ years (22,500 km) later they had to be replaced again (which tells you something about the quality of Ford parts). The price under the new “Family Pricing” went up 81% for rotors & 48% for pads.

2001 Ford Taurus SES 3.0L 24v DOHC from North America

Summary:

Quick, stylish family sedan that never lets me down

Faults:

Broken rear spring, rusted through. Pending recall on this problem. Also, occasionally have to tap the dash to get gauges to light up at night. Other than that, no problems in almost 30,000 miles of ownership.

General Comments:

I love this car. I used to be a Chevy guy, but after numerous Chevy's failing me time and time again, I decided to try a Ford and do not regret it. I am not sure of the misfortunes others on these review boards have had with the late model Taurus because this has been by far the best vehicle I have owned to date. I have owned Honda's, Chevy's, Pontiac's, Toyota's etc and would never trade my Taurus for any of them. I love the sunroof, leather seats, stylish yet simple interior, and the overall build quality of this car just seems superior.

2001 Ford Taurus LS 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Very roomy, lots of power, very reliable, with Ford quality..

Faults:

Bad bad bad back brakes seized.

Engine light on all the time.

Serpentine belt and tensioner.

Armrest broke cup holder fell off.

All this happened cause I did not care about the car.

So if you take car of the car, there won't be problems.

Like this!

General Comments:

It is a very nice car. Fast and somewhat cheap to run!

2001 Ford Taurus from North America

Summary:

Built like a beast and very spacious!

Faults:

Not too many problems really, theirs a faint clunking sound in the front of the car. Two flat tires on Ford's tires, replaced with Goodyear, not a problem since. Engine light turns on for no reason. Brakes replaced around 110,000 miles.

General Comments:

The car is built like a beast. I have been in two accidents and it has held strong. One accident I got hit from all 4 sides of car, $3000 of damage, insurance covered most. Got rear ended by a Saturn, no damage done to my Taurus. Very spacious car, big back seat, lots of leg room front and back seat. Big trunk. Drives great in snow, that is if you know how to drive in the snow. Sorry, but half the time it's the driver not the car that puts them in a ditch! I bought my car from a family friend, it was her business car, I got it very reasonable price $3200, worth every penny. Don't bother with Ford dealership, local ma and pop shops give you a better deal.

2001 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Costly to maintain, only buy one if you LOVE Tauruses

Faults:

Things that went wrong with the car:

Went through 2 starters in 9 months. Stranded us both times the starters went. Starters were not defective, there was an electrical issue causing them to fail. Both times had to pay for a tow truck and cab fare when stranded.

Bad clunking in front end.

Service engine and gas cap filler lights coming on frequently, engine light on 98% of the time. Needed new gas cap, EVAP unit, EGR valve.

Water collecting in trunk where spare tire sits. Spare tire submerged in water, causing trunk floor to flood, pushing flooding through backseat into bench part of seat and floor. Water running out of sides of car.

Cruise control lights on steering wheel don't work.

General Comments:

Bought this car because it seemed nice and was low mileage at a very reasonable price. Within a month, the issues started. Please see above. Finally got fed up with the car to the point where we felt we needed to trade it in or sell it before it got any more costly.

As for normal driving, when the car was good, it was good. Nice interior, comfortable. Cold A/C, hot heat. Good gas mileage. Had an issue with the transmission downshifting for no reason though, the RPM's would drop during normal driving.

This was our first Ford, first Taurus, we now have a Pontiac Grand Prix we're very happy with. Will NEVER buy another Taurus, probably not another Ford for that matter.
