2002 Ford Taurus SES Vulcan from North America

Summary:

A great used car purchase so far

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car so far. I've noticed two things which should be covered under warranty next time I take it in for service: the driver's side window is misaligned, and the clearcoat paint is peeling a bit on the rear driver's side door.

General Comments:

The interior is very well-appointed. I especially like the seats, which have a nice pile upholstery. The dimming feature on the vanity mirrors is a nice touch, as are the extended visors. The steering wheel is very solid and has a nice grip. Storage areas in the center console and dash are rubberized, which means that there is less risk for items to go flying during a sudden change in speed.

Backseats are comfortable for tall adults.

The trunk is extremely large.

The ABS brakes are great, though I've heard the rotors warp really quickly.

The outside of the car looks really sharp.

The cruise control buttons on the steering wheel could be lit at night, but they are tactile-coded (e.g., a button is raised or depressed depending on whether you want to increase or decrease speed).

The gas mileage could stand to be a bit better (I'm averaging around 20 in the city, upper-20s on the highway).

2002 Ford Taurus Sel 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Great Value for the Money!!!

Faults:

Since picking up the vehicle nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

Car is very comfortable. Rides great and seats are comfortable. Really like the looks of the car and price is great compared to other vehicles in the same class. Premium sound system is great! Trunk has a large amount of space. Base engine has enough power to merge/pass safely. Have heard the 24 Valve Duratec is quite a bit more powerful, but haven't driven one.

Just wanted to update my experience with this vehicle. Now at 46000 km. Only problem with vehicle was a recall on Brake switch. 10 minutes spent at dealer to fix. Overall car has been great. Really like how the vehicle drives and have had many people comment on it's looks. It's charcoal grey with trunk spoiler and SEL wheels. I've noticed that the brake rotors do warp early, but I spend a lot of time in stop and go traffic. Dealer checked brakes and they are in great shape still. I'll try to update status of vehicle as time goes on.

Try checking your transmission fluid level according to proper procedure. If it's low or too high, make the correction. Improver fluid level will cause hard shifting once the transmission heats up in stop and go traffic.

Most likely the vibration you are feeling on the highway is from tires being out of balance, not warped rotors. People seems to remember to rotate their tires, but forget that they need balancing too!

2002 Ford Taurus SEL Wagon DOHC from North America

Summary:

Great family car and a great deal!

Faults:

When I picked the car up from the dealer, it needed paint work, had cracked molding, and was dirty inside. The dealer fixed these without an issue.

Have had no problems since.

General Comments:

Great Power with 200 HP engine.

Interior fit, finish and looks are very appealing.

Third row seat comes in handy.

Great features for a car of this price: traction control, 4 wheel disc brakes, automatic climate control, 6 CD changer, premium sound, perimeter lighting, aluminum wheels, leather interior, key-less entry, automatic head lights, auto dimming rear view mirror all for less than $20 after discount and rebates.

Has latch and tether for infant car seats.

Great safety rating.

Only dislikes: the driver foot rest is too close to the driver, the slope of the doors make entry/exit difficult, and the exterior looks are boring.

Overall a great value.

I have a 2002 Ford Taurus and now have 140,000 km on it. I haven't had any major problems, but then I drive the speed limit and broke it in at a slightly lower mph. I get about 35 MPG on the road and lower in the city. When buying a used car - consider the person that broke it in and also the drivers since that time. It has a tremendous effect even on the most expensive cars.
