1992 Ford Tempo GL from North America

Summary:

An economically smart choice for a high performing car

Faults:

My muffler fell off at 150000.

I needed a new starter at 153000.

Water pump went at 154000.

But before that stretch of repairs nothing went wrong since I bought it and the battery lasted ten years.

General Comments:

Great car, it is very economical while providing a comfortable ride.

The car lacks power, but is very capable of handling high speeds. The acceleration is rather slow, but can zoom past other cars with considerable ease.

The seats are very comfortable and there is lots of room in the car for cargo.

Very under rated, all my friends think that Tempo's are slow, ugly and poor performing cars, but once they rode in it they changed their opinion.

The Tempo does not score high for its look, but rather because it is a great all round car.

1992 Ford Tempo GL 2.5 4 cylinder. HSC from North America

Summary:

Reliable, inexpensive, and good on fuel

Faults:

The car needed a clutch when I first bought it, and the dealer was of little help. I've put two clutches in it since, but only because I drive this car very hard. Fuel pump needed replaced at 178,000 miles, but since I do all of my own work, it only cost me $60. The engine has never been opened, and I hope it stays that way. Drivers side shoulder belt motor quit working at about 160,000 miles.

General Comments:

My Tempo has been very good to me, I drive it very hard, change the oil every 3K miles, and keep up with maintenance. For a $2,000 car I think I got quite a deal, it's very reliable, easy to work on, and parts are fairly inexpensive. I have no plans of ever getting rid of it.

1992 Ford Tempo GL 2.3 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A low maintenance marvel

Faults:

I replaced the windshield, which was shattered by debris in a windstorm.

I replaced the flywheel on the engine at 45000 miles.

I replaced the fan at 54000 miles.

General Comments:

The car sat un-driven for several years and nothing went wrong with it.

The car almost drives itself, which is wonderful.

The car is wonderfully efficient. I only fill up with gas once every week and a half while putting lots of miles on it.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it has those automatic shoulder belts.

I agree with the auto shoulder belts. I don't really mind them, but when I get friends in the car they complain about it. I've had mine for about 2 months and it died on me when I was driving on 92 in florida. it was the fuel pump. I read a lot of other comments and some also said things about the fuel pump. is that a normal tempo thing?

1992 Ford Tempo LS 2.3L from North America

Summary:

Super high powered ferrari type ford

Faults:

Little rust, if any.

General Comments:

You "diss" my tempo and ill run you over with her. Shes a tank, just cause it's a ford doesn't mean I can't beat you.

1992 Ford Tempo GL 2.3 from North America

Summary:

A good car that gets a bad rap

Faults:

The differential came apart at 79,000 miles.

General Comments:

The Ford Tempo is a seriously underrated car. It is simply a standard issue people mover, but has no glaring flaws. The design is nice, and the interior is comfortable and roomy.

The only fault I could find with the car is the rear seats don't fold down for added cargo space. Despite what is said of Ford Tempos, there are still very many of them on the road today.

The fact that there are a bunch of them on the road is a tribute to 2 things...

1. Auto parts stores across the U.S.

2. Ford sold tons of them.

Why don't you check out your local junkyard. Ours has 29 rows of cars. 3 are devoted solely to the Tempo/Topaz Twins.

The tempo is underrated because it is a piece of junk.

I did own one, but it died.

I have spent tons and tons of money fixing everything that goes wrong with it every week.

I HATE TEMPOS!!!
