2000 Ford Windstar SE 3.8 from North America

Summary:

You get what you pay for!

Faults:

Wheel bearings went at 201,000 kms.

Lever to change gears gets stuck all the time since I had it, I sometimes have to take 3 minutes to put the car in drive from park.

Air conditioning stays on even though it's turned off.

General Comments:

Overall the van has done me no real harm as of yet. After reading the reviews on here, I had to go to the boys room about 3 times out of fear of reading some horror stories.

I bought the van really cheap from a dealer, and even though it had an engine light on, it never gave me any serious problems other than a couple wheel bearings...

One thing I was disappointed in is there are no cup holders.

No cup holders? Try pulling out the little drawer below the radio.

2000 Ford Windstar LX 2.8 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Don't buy it

Faults:

Automatic doors stick.

Stereo quit.

Transmission problems.

General Comments:

The sliding doors don't slide easily when you open or shut them manually. I've tried other vans which easily slide open and shut. A real annoyance, as the automatic sliding has failed.

The biggest complaint is the lack of leg room in the back. It is very uncomfortable for a passenger in the back seat and there isn't much room in the center seats. You would think a van would be able to have several passengers, but not so with the Windstar.

The tranny gave us problems a year back. Was kind of an expensive fix.

2000 Ford Windstar LX 3.8 from North America

Summary:

Very good for a Ford!!!

Faults:

Mass airflow sensor went at 50,000. This is the only major thing that has given us any problems.

Outside trim fit and finish is not so great, but being cosmetic only, I don't consider that as a negative.

Radio is temperamental, but luckily my wife doesn't care.

Paint on the hood is starting to blow off in big chunks. Doesn't bother us at all, it's a 8 year old van!

General Comments:

Despite this vehicles sub-par fit and finish, it is very reliable. Even when the mass airflow sensor went, and this van would run intermittently, it never left us stranded.

I am actually amazed at how this thing has held up given the abuse our 3 kids have given it. It's my wife's vehicle, and she is hard on the accelerator and brake, but this thing doesn't seem to mind at all.

As for maintenance, I keep the oil changed, and once in a while I will wash it. Unlike other reviewers, we have no fear piling the kids in this thing and taking it on vacation. It's safe, reliable, and very comfortable. Our other 2 vehicles are Japanese and we love them, but we will not hesitate to replace this with another Ford van. After all the vacations and trips in this van, it's become a member of the family.

2000 Ford Windstar from North America

Summary:

Total garbage

Faults:

I had a 1995 Windstar that I bought new, and was generally happy with. I put plugs, wires, a few other things in at about 145,000 miles, and at 150,000 decided to drive it to 200,000. I totaled it at 168,000 and was really mad at myself.

I bought a used 2000 Windstar. What a piece of garbage! It is a totally cheapened version of the 1995, and I could go to great lengths to tell you why I say this (little things like our bike rack, which worked fine on the 95 caving in the rear hatch, cigarette lighter falling out of the dash, etc. Two transmissions at about 110,000 miles. Now the speedometer and ABS.)

I will never, ever buy their junk again!!
