2003 Ford Windstar LX from North America

Summary:

If you don't mind random problems, then go for it

Faults:

The ABS and brake lights come on randomly.

The check engine and battery light come on randomly.

The van would jerk and shake whenever we came to a complete stop.

The radio would go in and out.

The air conditioning would work for about 10 minutes in the front, then run hot. It would not blow through the rear vents.

And most recently, the van would start to cut out while driving at a high speed.

General Comments:

When everything is running properly, it is a smooth ride. The seats are comfortable and it has a lot of leg room.

This van needs new spark plugs, wires and maybe a coil pack. If properly tuned up, the engine runs quite nice.

The alternator and the battery should be load tested.

The ABS light comes on because of a cracked circuit board in the ABS controller. It is too expensive to replace. The brakes work like regular brakes when the light is on.

2003 Ford Windstar Sport 3.8 V6 from North America

Summary:

Wish we had bought it sooner

Faults:

Only thing that has gone wrong with this was the recall we got in 2010 (December); the rear axle had to be checked, and if it was cracked, it would need replaced. It was fine.

General Comments:

We bought this in September 2010, and only had 112,000 k's. The transmission changes gears really smooth, the motor (3.8 V6) is great, the seats are comfy and easy to remove. Love that it has 2 slider doors.

The body has never been touched, and has no rust.

It's very good on gas, and drives really smooth,

2003 Ford Windstar LX 3.8 from North America

Summary:

Worst pile of crap I've ever had the misfortune of owning

Faults:

Electrical issues:

Wiper motor went in the first days of owning.

Guessing the second replacement alternator went about 2 weeks after buying it. The dealer took 2 weeks to finally replace the alternator.

Front suspension issues.

Interior lights have a mind of their own.

Purchased a 2 year extended warranty just to find the dealer is refusing to honor the entire warranty.

General Comments:

Advice to anyone buying from a dealer; either avoid at all costs or purchase an extended warranty if available, and get rid of it as soon as possible.

To be honest, if it wasn't for the failures, it would be an OK van, but with it spending as much time in the shop as it does on the road, I'd say it's a pretty poor performer.

2003 Ford Windstar Limited 3.8 from North America

Summary:

We have ourselves to blame!!!

Faults:

Alternator and battery went bad.

Passenger side automatic door stopped working.

Reverse parking sensor system stopped working.

Outside temperature reading stopped working.

Dome light comes on randomly.

Dash board lights keep coming on.

The ABS, brake and traction control.

Seats wore out fast.

Suspension wore out fast.

Transmission jumps a lot.

Suspension always made noise.

General Comments:

It's too bad, it seemed like a really nice van with a lot of features. It would be nice if they all worked.

I know of a couple of recalls, but there should definitely be a lot more.

We are slightly to blame. We all complain, but are not doing all we can. I want everyone to go to this web page and file a complaint on all these issues. If we all do it, Ford will have to fix them. They will also have to reimburse you on what previous repairs cost. The web page is http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

I know this will work, this is how the other two recalls got done. Come on people, stop letting them rip us off!!! Let's do something about it!!!
