Rubbish cars; drove a friends Geely and it felt exactly as described. Cheap and Chinese. He got rid of it weeks after because he was having too many problems with it; interior pieces falling apart and excessive and premature wear on everything.
Avoid at all costs.

We bought an auto MK when they came out, and it sort of lasted for 3 years... In saying that, the gearbox packed up twice and it had done a whole 25k when it spat the dummy again and decided to not want to go into gear without a massive rev in between shifts. We don't own a Geely now, and will never own another.

It beggars belief that cars like this are even considered by some people.
A vehicle purchase is a massive commitment for most people, and why you'd spend that kind of money on an unknown, untested vehicle is borderline madness.
You'd be better off spending $5K on a used 5-10 year old econobox from any other manufacturer, and I GUARANTEE you less issues than a Chinese car. Chinese manufacturing is known for one thing, cost effectiveness.
There is no innovation in any of these vehicles; just someone out for a quick buck. I implore anyone purchasing any vehicle, new or used, do your research!

Geely is an up and coming brand that's been improving a lot since 2010 when this review was written. Kia and Hyundai have been pretty popular in the US as low cost options, so Geely would seem to have potential when they expand to North America. There's a reason Geely is in the international carmaker hall of fame already, despite not broaching every market.

Well I have some positive feedback on my experience of the Geely MK 1.5 GT Hatch purchased in May 2014. This car has been an awesome choice for me. I knew at purchase I was taking a risk as the brand was unknown, but the vehicle was fantastic value for money as I travel 50km per day for work. It was a 2010 model, 35000km on the clock for $6995.00. It has now done 91000km, travelled several long distance trips plus a daily run to work without a problem.
After 2 years I have a couple of minor things needing fixed, 1 being the heater and 2 the sunroof slider needs re-aligned. This was a great buy for me, and the wee gem has plenty of life in it yet!!

Read the different car blogs and even Yahoo US news: In China, the best-selling cars are from VW (we know they're nowhere near as reliable as Toyota in general), Chevrolet, Ford, Buick; the Chinese themselves would rather not buy their own if they could, regardless of how much cheaper they are. There's a reason for that, and the locals vote with their purses.
