1996 Geo Metro LSi 1.2L from North America

Summary:

Great reliability for a great price

Faults:

The passenger side-mirror came off in a collision with an orange traffic barrel and knocked the window off track.

I had to replace the front brake pads at 40000.

I replaced the battery in 2000 and again in 2003.

Just recently, I had lost the bearings in both rear wheels. These are currently in the shop being replaced again, because of the shop's error not a problem with the car.

The air conditioner went out about 6 months after I bought the car, but I was already beyond the mileage for the manufacturers warranty.

The dashboard in my car has faded terribly. However, I did live in Florida and parked outside in the sun on a regular basis.

General Comments:

This car has been great to me.

Overall very reliable and efficient for someone working with a tight budget that needs to get around.

I am only 5'4", so there is plenty of room in this car for me. Anything larger would feel to big. It easily carries everything I need.

It is an ease to drive and for being a little car with no weight, the 4-cylinder engine is more power than it needs. I am grateful for that now, since I have moved to the mountains.

I too had my passenger side mirror fall off when I was backing out of my drive way and had a incident with my plastic Garbage can. I could not belive it can off that easy when I was probably only going about 5 mph.

I also have a 1996 Geo Metro and I love my car. Very reliable. My dashboard also faded from sitting in the sun where I work. Go to you local auto parts store, they make a spray paint made to paint dashboards. Explain to the salesperson what you need. Just use fine sandpaper on the dashboard, rough it up just enough to make the new paint stick, tape off anything you don't want painted and go at it! I did mine this past summer and it looks like new.

1996 Geo Metro LX 1.0 from North America

Summary:

Geo is a great little car

Faults:

Not a single thing.

General Comments:

For anyone who is looking for a cheap little reliable car GET ONE. I have had mine 3 years and I am fairly abusive with it and I have never had a single problem.

I work road construction out of town, so I drive about 1200 miles a week (not to mention around a crusher pit) and this is the first car I have had that has had no problems at all.

It is a little slower, but makes up for it at the pump. I drive mine real hard and I still get 45 miles to the gallon.

1996 Geo Metro LSi 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Wonderful cheap little go-getter

Faults:

Air conditioning died soon after I bought the car. The air compressor malfunctioned, and the people I bought the car from just didn't bother to tell me. I would have had to replace the compressor at about $500, so I just lived with out one. :)

Both belts had to be replaced at about 60,000 miles, but parts for this car are so cheap that having both replaced only cost about $50.

General Comments:

My Geo Metro was my first car, and a great experience. To be a 4 cylinder, it had a lot of "get-up-and-go", and got such great gas mileage that the 8 gallon gas tank wasn't a problem. The car was very hardy, VERY reliable, and even when I had to have repairs made, they were unbelievably cheap. I put over 30,000 miles on the car in just one year, but til the very end, it still ran just as great as the day that I bought it. Most of the miles that I put on the car were interstate miles, run at speeds of 75-80 miles an hour, and it never phased it. The only problems I ran into were the small back seat, and the air compressor dying. It has an incredible amount of trunk space, and is just a fun car to drive.

On April 8th, 2003, I was involved in a car accident on my way home from work. Unfortunately, my wonderful little Metro did not survive the accident. However, it kept me from any injury, even though the accident occurred at a speed of about 40 m.p.h on wet roads. The air bags deployed perfectly, and though the front of the car was almost completely destroyed, the interior of the car was left in perfect condition, and no harm came to me except the average pulled muscles that a car accident leaves behind. I walked away from the accident. I am currently looking to buy another Geo Metro... why change when you've found the best?

I would recommend this car to anyone, especially lovers of small cars, people looking to save on gas, and students or first time car owners.

The price of a Metro LSI appears to vary from 1-3,000. Do you think the resale market undervalues the Metro?
