1989 Geo Spectrum from North America

Summary:

This car accomplishes what you paid for it, it gets you reliably from A to B with good gas mileage

Faults:

The CV joints went out last year.

The driver's seat wore out at 140,000.

I have the hatchback model and the fasteners that hold the plastic molding have worn out so that the hatch squeaks when driving.

General Comments:

This car accomplishes what you paid for it, it gets you reliably from A to B with good gas mileage. This car has been totaled twice and it still runs like a champ.

1989 Geo Spectrum 1.5 from North America

Summary:

Decent little car

Faults:

The headliner kept falling and the starter went out.

General Comments:

Good basic car, I got it for free, drove the crap outta it and still sold it for 1900.00 when I got rid of it. Only thing about that car was that small things broke like the window crank and the ventilation knobs, besides that I never had a problem with it. Only reason I sold it was because I got a new car and didn't see the sense in that one wasting away in the driveway.

1989 Geo Spectrum 1.5 from North America

Summary:

Great alternative to expensive used cars

Faults:

Well basically just the basic stuff. Transmission @ 120,000, alternator, airconditioning compressor.

General Comments:

Pretty good little car. Not many problems, has been reliable for me but of course I kept it up. Gave it to my sisters daughter last year for her first car.

1989 Geo Spectrum 1.5 from North America

Faults:

Mufflers every year it seems and the brake pads have to be changed every 6 months. Power steering is going out slowly but surely. Tranny is starting to slip and the engine pings.

General Comments:

This has been a terrific little car early in its life but it hasn't held up well as far as the interior is concerned. Knobs have broke off. Window handles broke in the back. This car is just now starting to have problems, it has always been a reliable source of transportation for me. I admit though that it's time to trade this sucker in and get something newer that has enough power to get out of its own way. I was thinking of maybe a Ford Ranger or something, something where the inside will hold up as good as the engine/mechanicals. I would consider another Geo except when I traveled down to the local dealer that had these cars where I bought this one they informed me that Geo was discontinued? So off to Ford I go cause I would never own a Chevrolet!

You are amply mistaken. The hypocracy in your statement is about owning a Chevrolet, the mistake is very evident, seeing as GEOs are in fact Chevrolets. In essence a GEO is a budget priced Chevy. Geos are still being made, but now they are Chevy cars under newer up to date names. So having owned a GEO, you have owned a Chevrolet.

1989 Geo Spectrum 1.5 from North America

Faults:

Well, the transmission recently went out. But the car has close to 200,000 miles so I can't complain. Besides that, nothing has went out except a starter. I consider myself lucky.

General Comments:

This is an OK car, the engine in it sounds like crap but it always seems to get me where I'm going. The body doesn't hold up too well either as far as the paint is concerned. I've kept it washed and waxed ever since I had it (1990) and it still has faded to nothing it seems. Oh well, though I guess you could just call it basic transportation.
