1988 GMC S-15 Sierra 4.3 V6 vortech from North America

Summary:

Divine beauty and super strength

Faults:

Seat belts have started to wear badly.

Compression failure due to drag/street racing had to replace engine.

In 1998 I replaced a starter and fly wheel.

Replaced distributor cap; it's gone through two alternators.

General Comments:

Honestly the best car imaginable; tough, rugged, dependable, it's just amazing. I wouldn't own another car if I didn't have to.

First day I got it I installed dual exhausts. Man I tell ya it screams.

1988 GMC S-15 Sierra 2.8 from North America

Summary:

Strong, reliable, and a classic

Faults:

I need a new transmission gasket and a new radiator.

General Comments:

This truck is a great way for teenagers to experience how to take care of a vechile. This truck is built great. Unlike all of the cars built today. This is a metal truck. It would have to take a pretty hard hit to damage this truck.

I have a 1988 GMC S-15 2.5L, and it keeps running despite over 200,000 miles and whatever I've put it through and the previous owner.

It was my first real rig, I drove a '69 Chevy C-10 that was my brothers for a while, but bought this one. This d**ned pickup just keeps going, and I'm really impressed. It's a little tinnier (in other words, the metal is somewhat thin) than I like it and I'm thinking of putting a headache rack on it JUST in case I screw up too badly, LOL..

Otherwise, it's a great little pickup, slightly lacking in power, but hey it gets the job done no matter what.

I also bought a '90 Olds (see a GM trend here?) and I have to say I think my pickup makes less noise than that stupid car of mine! Or maybe I'm just being paranoid. haha.

Either way, it's a great pickup, I'm gonna use it until the dang thing dies.

1988 GMC S-15 Sierra Classic 2.8 from North America

Summary:

Nice for first time / young drivers

Faults:

Cramped interior made long rides somewhat uncomfortable.

Had to have motor work and motor replacement done numerous times while owned.

Air conditioning unit stopped working.

Exhaust system deteriorated over time.

General Comments:

Four wheel drive worked well.

The truck did handle somewhat well.

Preformed nicely in semi-inclement weather.

1988 GMC S-15 4.3L V6 from North America

Summary:

Good Times at a good price

Faults:

The week after I got the truck the tread fell off the tires. It only cost me $270 to put a new set of rubber on.

The throttle linkage had to be adjusted as soon as I bought it, it would idle really hard. The temperature sensor went out within the first 500 miles. This caused the engine to overheat. The distributor was destroyed and a few parts had to be replaced.

General Comments:

This was the first vehicle I bought, my two criteria were cost and usefulness. It has great pick up and go, I race all sorts of cars, which would explain the repairs.

It is a great beginner vehicle at a low starting cost and minimal repair costs.

I have the same kind of truck, bought it when it was six years old, had high mileage, it has been the best, I love my truck! It can still, in it's old age, beat anyone.wish I could find a brand new one, I need to do a lot of general age related repairs on it, but it runs good anyway.
