2009 Holden Astra AH Station Wagon 1.9 JTD turbo diesel from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Great value

Faults:

No problems to date.

General Comments:

Very impressive performance, accelerates harder than my previous vehicle, which had a 2.5 litre petrol engine.

Finish is better than expected, and is on par or even better than Japanese products, which are considered now to be the best in the world.

It is comfortable for long distance travel, extremely economical, averaging 5.6 litres per 100km overall, and getting 5.1 on a trip at legal speeds.

This would be one of the most underrated vehicles on the NZ/Aust. market, great level of performance, all the extras one could wish for, and of course plenty of dealers if they are ever required.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Glad to hear it. Yes, underrated they are, and No I do not believe Japanese cars are anywhere near the quality of German made vehicles.

Our Astra is on 91,000km and still goes as hard as anything. People will fall for the Japanese car thing, but so let them go, I don't really care anymore. All I know is that they are not as structurally sound and solid as European built vehicles of today...

I couldn't agree more.

It's frustrating listening to people go on about how great their Japanese rubbish is, how superior they are! It's not true.

They don't give the European cars a chance. The biggest European turn around would have to be Skoda. There is nobody who has ever been in a quality midsized car until they have driven a Skoda Octavia VRS. It's the best mid sizer ever!

The Astra is excellent, I have an 8 year old, which has done 134,000km and is going great. The quality is excellent.

I know people who have religiously bought Mazda cars all their lives, and who knows why, because they have never had one without many problems, and they don't keep them any longer than 5 years!

Eventually people will wake up and realise, and all we can do is say we told them so.
