2000 Holden Commodore VX SS 5.7 Litre V8 Bow-tie power from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A great car with a great engine

Faults:

Electronic boot released failed once. Repaired under warranty.

General Comments:

I love it. Best car I have ever owned.

But with stock exhaust system it's a little too quiet. But with a DTperformance exhaust system the Chev engine really sings. It goes like a rocket too.

Wild horses couldn't stop me on getting another SS Commodore. Or maybe a HSV.

Sounds like its a sick car, but I really would choose a senator, even if it costs more than the average car 2 run, give her LPG, and she goes like a rocket for cheaper.

NOTE: you may have to remove your amp in the back for this 1.

I'm getting myself one and it's on order.

A question regarding exhaust... does this void warranty? I'd hate to have an expensive problem only to find that Holden will blame it on the exhaust and refuse warranty to repair it.

Also, is the exhaust package you got from DM (Adelaide?) a flash fit?.. I really hate seeing cars with their mufflers hanging 2 inches off the road.

The VX SS is a great car. It has the power, pleasure and room that I need. I recently bought an auto SS. This thing hammers and with the right exhaust system you'll be on the verge of beating clubsport's, add a chip to this and take on the GTS! Don't even mention any Ford's as they give no challenge to this beast!

I was a Holden mechanic and I know that with a VX 300kw GTS the customer changed the exhaust to a custom exhaust, and when it came in for its first service the warning lights lit the dash up like a Christmas tree. Refitted the old exhaust and the problem was fixed. Sounds wierd but it happens. There is also a HSV rear muffler you can buy which doesn't void the warranty and makes the cars sound a whole lot better.

How is the suspension in the VX SS now, I drove a VN SS a few years back and it felt like a boat going around corners, all over the place...

Can you stick with the Stock Suspension or is there a good upgrade available.?

Cheers

No it does not affect your warranty.

2000 Holden Commodore SS 5.7 GEN III from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Best performance/family car on the market!

Faults:

Nothing apart from a couple of rattles from the front passenger seat and the front driver's weather seal on the door.

General Comments:

Great car, heaps of power, excellent handling, extremely comfortable and great on the highway.

Can fit 5 adults in comfort and has a boot big enough for the Golf clubs and buggy.

The only downside is fuel consumption - expect at least 15L/100km around town and about 10L/100km on the freeway.

My yr2000 SS was pretty ordinary.

Power steering pump died, replaced diff as it had too much play, it still has too much play.

It's back to Holden to fix. I suspect the Auto is damaged.

As for acceleration, it's good. Comfort, good. Handling, like a dog. Definitely not a WRX sti around corners.
