1987 Honda Accord LX-i 2.0 from North America

Summary:

310,000 miles and I am still going

Faults:

This is the only car that I have owned, and it's a darn good one. Everything started failing at about 220,000 until know.

Common things have gone wrong with this car like the brakes, tires, spark plugs.

I had the transmission/clutch, and clutch cable go out at about 220,000 miles. (this was the biggest thing)

My gas tank was rusted to pieces, but it was under warranty still so they replaced it for free in 2002.

My timing belt went at 240,000 miles.

My car makes the most embarrassing noise when it idles. It sounds like its breathing. Its been doing this as long as I can remember. No mechanic knows why? The car still drives good.

Power steering is gone, it does not bother me though.

A red light stays on, on my dash, I don't know what it's for and I can care less cause the car still runs fine. I think it may be the fuel injectors, but I replaced them.

A/C leaks so I don't have air.

My engine is also leaking oil, from somewhere.

I put a new muffler on.

My speedometer went out.

My alternator at about 220,000 miles.

Ball joints, brake pads, calipers, axles every thing behind all the tires.

My whole brake system went out and had to be replaced. only about $130 to fix, if you do it yourself.

The right headlight does not go up/down, but no big deal because you can keep it in the up position.

Sun roof leaks, so I sealed it up.

Emergency brake has been broken for a long time.

The whole car rattles.

Window motors are on their last life.

The water pump just went out and all of the belts in the car broke on the highway. I still made it home 21 miles away. This car is strong.

General Comments:

This is a darn good car. I've made a lot of repairs, but people make this many repairs on other cars that only have 120,000 miles on it.

This car is great! I did all the repairs myself. I would recommend you do that also this car is easy to fix, and cheap.

I am not motivated to fix this car again, so its sitting in my garage. Its calling my name to be fixed, so I might. I am sick of fixing this car because every time I fix something, something else breaks. I don't know what else could?

The body is in good condition, people can't believe that it has over 310,000 miles on it.

If you get a chance to buy this car at 190,000 miles. Do it cause it still will have a lot of life left in it.

Sounds like you got your moneys worth. If a car starts falling apart AFTER 200,000 miles it's done it's job.

I know what you mean when you said your car makes a breathing noise. My car with 235k makes that same noise when it idles. the rpms goes up and down continually for some reason. But it was the best $250 I have ever spent.

1987 Honda Accord GSi 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Another excellent Honda

Faults:

The Anti Lock braking sensor on the front of the vehicle has failed.

The front left brake hose ruptured.

General Comments:

This car is cost me £345.

It is comfortable and handles very well considering its' size.

The performance from the 2.0 litre engine is superb. I have not seen another GSI in the uk yet.

The car starts first time, every time.

It has every luxury including Cruise Control, Air Conditioning, Electric Windows, Electric Sunroof.

I could not recommend Honda more. They may be a little plain inside, but the reliability and performance are second to none. I have owned a Civic VTi before and had very good service from that. I will not hesitate to buy again especially after the awful Cavalier.
