1992 Honda Accord LX 4 Cylinder from North America
Summary:
Reliable long lasting car
Faults:
The first thing that went wrong was in the electrical system. The horn and brake lights were not working. Apparently the horn had rotted causing the electrical failure.
The A/C worked for the first summer I had the car, but that was it. The compressor went bad after that, and I did not want to spend the money to replace it.
The car supposedly had newer brakes when I bought it, but I had to have them replaced in less than a year. The caliper on the passenger side was not working at all, which probably caused the brakes to wear out so quickly.
The spring on the passenger side was broke in half when I replaced the struts.
All of the seals went bad causing the car to leak oil from various places. Replaced around 180K.
Antenna motor is stripped.
Water pump went bad at 180K.
The car idle had needed to be adjusted frequently.
The car rust pretty bad around the wheels.
Radiator has a small leak.
General Comments:
Still get fairly good gas mileage for as many miles as the car has. Still can get around 30 mpg on mostly 70+ mph highway driving that I do.
Interior has held up very well, and looks better than many newer cars.
This car has been very reliable and has very little repairs considering the age and the mileage of the car. Beside routine maintenance, the car has very little problems. The engine still has a lot of power / acceleration too.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

When I test drove my first Honda Accord, I loved the power and the look, but the jerky feeling made my hesitate on buying it. Since then, and a fair amount of research, I found that the jerky transmission is normal for Honda's in general. It's because it likes the higher RPM shifts (much like the Mazda RX-8)
After test driving about 30 more Honda Accords from different years the jerky feeling is normal. But less 'whiplash like' if you make sure to use the Honda Transmission fluid.
