1997 Honda Civic DX 1.6 from North America
Summary:
If this car was any tougher it would be a tractor!
Faults:
I had the alternator replaced at about 120,000 miles.
Replaced the original plugs, wires and distributor cap at 154,000 miles.
General Comments:
I bought this car as a stop gap replacement for the Chevy S-10 pile that I sold. Hadn't planned to keep this car more than a year since it had been badly abused before I got it. It was just intended to be cheap transportation until I found something nicer.
Well the car quickly grew on me. Got so attached to it my kids and I even named it Sugar Ray (after the boxer) since it looked like it had been through a few fights. The name really suits this car since it just won't give up.
160,000 on the clock now and it averages 34 mpg. Never misses a lick. I replaced a pickup with this car and have used it very much like a truck. Fold down the back seat to haul lumber, no problem. Throw a greasy transmission in the trunk, easy. Basically, I beat the heck out of this car and it just keeps going.
It's quite worn and it shows. Must have been hit in the rear at some point. The trunk doesn't seal well and usually has a puddle in it when it rains. It had been a smokers car and the interior has a number of burns and stains. The body is dinged from front to back. That being said, I've never had a car that has been this low maintenance. I drive a lot and this car has racked up the miles since I bought it with very few issues.
I've just bought a replacement for Ray. My kids are growing and I need a four door. Really hate to see him go, but I guess it's time.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
