2002 Honda Civic LS 5 door (euro model) 1.6 i-VTEC from Netherlands

Summary:

A Honda again, but not from Britain

Faults:

Overall build quality of the car, it is British built, and therefore far worse than my previous Civics from Japan (3d hatch), lots of rattles and squeaks.

Lots of Japanese cars from Britain (or anywhere else in Europe) have little or big faults that don't occur in Japanese cars.

The amount of revs of the motor, especially at motorway speeds, 100 km/h and higher, is far too high. 120 km/h makes about 3900 rpm, which gives a lot of noise and decreases the mileage. The 1.6i 110 hp i-VTEC motor has lots of torque, so why so many revs?

General Comments:

There is a lot of space in the cabin, partly because of the distance between the front and rear wheels. That also makes the car difficult to park (much space needed), but I can live with that.

The electrical power steering is a funny thing, hydraulic steering works much nicer, but it needs getting used to.

After 7000 km, nothing is broken or went wrong, the gas mileage is about 1:15 (6,7 l /100 km), and it has low weight (which gives low taxes in Holland).

2002 Honda Civic LX 1.7 from North America

Summary:

One of the best cars in the world

Faults:

Nothing really, one the daytime running lights does not work sometimes. It's due to a relay, but the headlights and high beams work fine.

General Comments:

What can I say, but this car is just amazing, it starts and runs like it just came out of the show room.

I've had this car for 2.5 years, and have not even had to change the brakes.

I think all I've done is put 2 new tires on it and changed the oil a few times. This car has never seen the inside of a shop. It still gets 600 km to a full tank. I've had Hondas in the past and they were also very good cars. Honda just seems to make better and better cars as the years go by.

I've driven many cars; GM, Ford, Chrysler Hyundai, Audi, VW, toyota.

I would say Toyota is comparable, but I've never driven a Toyota over a long period of time.

For me this car has it all; it's a 2 door coupe, it's black with tinted windows. It looks sharp, it's super reliable, great on gas, and very practical.

I bought this car for 6,500 cdn plus tax, came out to 7,500, back in Oct 2007.

All I've done is put in a new windshield and replaced 2 tires. I also tinted the windows, total cost was about 480.00 cdn over 3 years.

The car is still worth about 5000.00, so in 3 years I've only lost about 2,500 on the value of the car, and 500 in repairs and upgrades.

I would hate to have to sell it, but the new Civics are even nicer,

2002 Honda Civic LX from North America

Summary:

Definitely recommended!!!

Faults:

I had trouble starting the car after I had only had it for four days. I had trouble starting it periodically after that for the entire time I owned the car. It would usually happen 1 or 2 times per week and would happen at all times of the year. I would be interested to know if anyone else ever had this same problem?

The tires wore out early and I had to have one strut replaced.

Otherwise, the car was completely trouble free.

General Comments:

So far this is the best car I have owned. I had an accident that totaled the car, but I definitely plan to buy another Civic to replace it.

2002 Honda Civic from North America

Summary:

Tremendously reliable if you take care of it. But not terribly luxurious

Faults:

Front passenger side window wiring shorted out.

Front passenger arm controller developed a crack after a hard bump on a pothole on the highway.

Windshield washer fluid light stuck on.

Front mats get wet due to leaky seals on the front near the windshield.

Wind noise has gotten noticeably louder over time.

General Comments:

Purchased the car brand new and took care of it from the get go. It has been incredibly reliable.

The car does not have very much power, but its gas mileage is quite good.

The back passenger seats have poor head rests in my opinion. There ARE cushions there for your head, but it is not full head support. Good for kids, not so great for adults.

We had the right side wiring harness short out, and some of the wires melted together. Had to replace the entire harness to get the windows to go up and down again.

The sound system is sub-par, the bass rattles, and there isn't very much range. It does the job, but aftermarket speakers would be an enormous improvement.

Maintenance wise, this car has been rock solid. Almost nothing serious has ever gone wrong. All the repairs we have ever done have been normal, maintenance repairs such as replacing spark plugs, timing belt, fluids etc. We got the extended warranty, and so far have not really had to use it except for the wiring harness.
