2006 Honda Civic DX-G 1.8 from North America

Summary:

Won car of the year for a reason!

Faults:

Nothing, but I only had it a few months.

General Comments:

I read a few positive and negative reviews of the 2006 Civic, and wanted to give my opinion on the car, which I have owned for a couple of months now. I have the 2006 Civic DX-G coupe, which has left me with nothing but positive experiences.

First of all, it looks sporty and modern, and gets lots of compliments from girls as well as guys from all age groups. Performance, coming from a 100hp Saturn to this 140hp, is a big step up, and is more than adequate for my needs of merging on the highway, and passing trucks and turtles on the road, without getting lots of speeding tickets.

Comfort, comparing to a rough riding Fiero and a basic Saturn SL1, this car handles pot holes very smoothly. Handling is above average; I have dodged many squirrels with ease, and can travel on highways turning at 100km/h without feeling like the car will slide or flip. Sound system is better than I expected; the factory built sub-woofer will shake the side-view mirrors when turned up, and the sound is clear and realistic.

Fuel economy is above average. I get roughly 550 km per tank of regular gas with a mixture of highway and city driving, and it costs me $50 (Canadian) to fill.

Braking is a little weak; I feel the car can go faster than it can stop, but the car was purchased used, and it could just need to be replaced. The digital dashboard is a nice touch that I thought I would hate, but now I'm not sure I could live without it.

Overall I love this car. My friends love getting rides, and I get a smile on my face when I climb into it daily.

2006 Honda Civic DX-G from North America

Summary:

Love at first sight!

Faults:

Everything is perfect on this car. It looks great, it's fun to drive, has great gas efficiency, it was cheap (paid $9200 for it used with low mileage) and it is very reliable. It starts up in the coldest conditions easily.

The only problem I have with it is the engine light. It always stays on. I had it checked at the Honda dealership, and was told one of my sensors had to be replaced. It wasn't anything serious, just lowers my gas mileage. I still took it to 750 km's on 1 tank of gas with a faulty sensor!

I love this car too much!

2006 Honda Civic 1.8 from North America

Summary:

Do not buy this car. It does not feel like a Honda

General Comments:

Not at all like my 2002 GREAT Civic. A let down after my 2002 Civic.

Do not buy this car (I can't believe I'm saying that).

Buy a 2002 to 2005 Civic for a great Civic ride and drive.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Don't buy an 02-05 (I hope you meant 01-05) Civic. Those are rubbish. I used to work for a dealer, and we'd have to repair those ALL the time. They fall apart and suck. Can't say much for the new ones though.

Having several Hondas through the years, and owning 3 older Hondas right now... I am saddened to see the 2006 is not up to the level of your 2002 Civic... but your review is good for people on the fence on trading or selling their older Hondas (which are usually paid off by now)... Hopefully people will hang on to them...

Also, here in California, we can put a non op on them (10-15 dollar fee from the DMV)... drop the insurance, and as long as we don't park them on the street... we can keep them with very low costs to hold on to them...

I believe as Korean cars get better, they are putting more and more pressure on the Japanese manufacturers to keep their standards up to the level that their prior owners have come to expect... That won't be easy for Honda, since Hyundai is starting to built plants in China to cut prices and costs.... hopefully the new 2012 Honda Civic that is coming out this spring/summer will put those standards back up where they belong...
