To the person with the none VTEC 1.5 Lsi, I also have one and the change in engine sound you notice is the second throttle butterfly opening. I don't know how good your technical knowledge is, but basically instead of it having one throttle butterfly to let air into the engine, when the depression in the cylinders is enough, it opens the second butterfly to let more air into the engine making it sound more throaty. A clever idea in my opinion and it sounds very nice.

Iv got a 1.5 vti import, are they all vtecs? Cos a lot of people are saying they are, but I don't think it's quick enough.

I have got a 1993 japanese import Civic SiR limited edition! It goes like hell! 0-60 gotta be sub 7 seconds, and the top speed unknown as I hit 140mph with loads left in her. Just not enough guts to keep going!! VTEC rules, japanese rules!

THe Civic SiR and VTi do 0-60 in 7.2-7.6 seconds, and their top speed is no more than 140.
The Type R Civic and Integra Type R both top out at about 146-148, and the 0-60 of the Civic Type R is about 6.7, and the Integra is 0-60 in 6.2 seconds (I own one).
Yes they are great cars, but when you say you had loads left, you probably mean like 100-200 rpm. That's not loads; that's near the limit.

An Integra Type R won't do 0-60 in 6.2.
Parkers say 6.5, Whatcar say 6.7, and Street-car says 6.5.
The Civic Type R does 0-60 in 6.4.

JDM spec Integra Type R DOES do the 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. Parkers and all the others are testing the UK version, which is a few hp down on the japanese spec and heavier, hence the 6.5.

Hi I've got a 1.5 LSi 3dr hatch with full pro-rage exhaust system, K+N filter. What else could I do to it to give it some extra bhp?? Would greatly appreciate some advice. Stephen.

To Steve, I used to own a 1.5 LSi and I found the best thing to get on them is a Superchip. You can feel the pull a lot better. I used to be able to leave Saxo VTSs and 106 GTIs. If you have the money go for a turbo conversion, if you get a powerful enough one you will be able to keep up with a lot of things LOL.

I own a 1.5 SOHC Civic VTi 1996, and though it's quicker then standard 1.4 models, compared to DOHC models I am smoked topped end, but not so much in acceleration from 1st and 2nd gear! It also doesn't have the same vtech noise as the DOHC at 5000 revs!
Is there anything cheap in modification after back box and straight induction kit are fitted to make it even faster?

I have a 1.6 DOHC VTi Civic. It's the English model.. Originally it was a 1.5 SOHC! It does 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and tops out at 153mph. It's pumping out 185bhp and it still beats 1.6 SiRs. 1.8 SiRs and 1.8 Type Rs can't pull away from me. I've only done small modifications! These are great engines.

No, it will NOT do 153mph. I've owned 3 Civic 1.8 VTis and 3 DC2 Integra Type Rs, and now a DC5 Type R, which is standard 217bhp, and quoted tops speeds for the Type Rs are 147mph. Down hill I registered 150 on the clock in a DC2 Type R racing a Scooby, which if I had sat nav, would probably be about 142mph. I love Hondas, but please don't exaggerate the claims.

The Civic VTi has the 1.6 litre B16-A engine, producing 167bhp. The 0-60 time is quoted as 7.0 seconds, top speed 128mph.
