1994 Honda Concerto 1.6i 16SE 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

The most reliable car I have ever owned

Faults:

The exhaust system needed replacing after only 2 years. After market systems have lasted much longer.

The front brake disks needed replacing at 160000 miles.

The radiator corroded and needed replacing at 130000 miles.

The driver's seat has sunk a bit.

General Comments:

The car has been supremely reliable throughout its life.

It is very quick, although the engine does needed to be revved to get the most out of the performance.

1994 Honda Concerto EXi 1.6i 16v Double Overhead Cam p from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Insurance friendly, high performance bargain

Faults:

Intermittent operation of door location lights.

Electric sunroof failure.

Electric windows laboured and noisy in operation.

General Comments:

A very capable family hatchback with the performance of a sports car combined with the practicality of an estate car. The engine is particularly good, but has heavy fuel consumption when driven enthusiastically. Ride is good, but too soft for my liking and the vehicle suffers from excessive body roll when subjected to high speed cornering.

Only a couple of dislikes. The anti-lock brake system pump sounds like a jumbo jet flying overhead and the engine consumes 1 litre of oil every 1500 miles, but I am assured this is within the specified limits.

1994 Honda Concerto injection 1.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A great family car with a bit of get up and go!

Faults:

Brake light bulbs keep blowing.

General Comments:

I can only find one fault that is the brake pedal travels quite far down before it really starts to slow down. Does anyone have the same problem?

Yeah, I got my Concerto, 1.6i 16v saloon in March and I have had to replace the right hand brake light 3 times! I too had a Fiesta before, but I think the Honda is a great car, I love it!

I bought a 1991 1.6i Auto July 2001.

70K on the clock with almost full Honda service history. When collecting the car and driving home in the dark, a couple of cars flashed their lights at me. You guessed it - right rear brake light bulb gone, so now I check it regularly by simply backing the car up against my garage door and checking the reflection.

Apart from this small niggle - a great car that I plan to keep for a good while.

I have a M reg Concerto 1.6i-16se, dark metallic green. Never seen one exactly identical as yet, my spoiler is on two rods, rather than sloping up from the boot. Last car was a Fiesta I had for 13 years. Only problem with the Honda, the rear break light keeps blowing!! Any cures?

1994 Honda Concerto SE 1.6i 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Value for money with reliability

Faults:

Not much, just wear and tear.

Brake pads, bulbs, etc.

Timing belt changed.

Windscreen replaced, due to a stone chip.

General Comments:

Performance, handling and reliablity underestimated.

SE model has air-con & leather, so comfort is excellent.

Dull image, but a set of good alloys soon changed that.

Its got all electric's including heated mirrors.

This is overall a well put together and fast car which is also reliable.
