1999 Honda CR-V 2 litre petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fantastic - buy one

Faults:

Absolutely nothing major whatsoever. Parking bulbs have gone - tricky to replace yourself.

General Comments:

This car is a joy on long journeys. I don't have cruise, but the auto box is so well geared and the gas pedal is so nicely weighted that you don't miss is.

I was shocked when the Honda dealer offered a 1 year warranty on a 5 year old car. It is completely reliable.

It states in the manual that the vehicle is not designed for trail blazing, but I've had it in a few muddy fields and it was quite nimble footed.

The cargo area is huge with the rear seats folded, I have fitted lawn mowers, motorbikes and barrels in mine no problem. The carpets are easy to keep clean too.

1999 Honda CR-V EX 2.0 from North America

Summary:

The perfect small SUV

Faults:

Ignition Switch Recall.

General Comments:

While my fiance was the one who chose the CR-V, I'm glad she did! This has been one of the most enjoyable vehicles to drive that I've ever owned.

The seats could be a little more comfortable, but after many long trips (a couple of over 3,000 miles) I've learned how to adjust the seats to fit me.

Good mileage for a small SUV: 25 MPG around town, 29+ MPG highway.

1999 Honda CR-V LX from North America

Summary:

Another Excellent Japanese Vehicle

Faults:

Nothing unscheduled.

The only thing that had to be done was the change of a fluid in something that has to do with the all wheel drive system, but I was told that this is a common thing and needs to be changed every 40K/m which is just the cost of having a vehicle with that feature.

General Comments:

What can I say about this car.

Extremely reliable.

Comfortable for long journeys.

It burns as much gas as a civic (that can't be bad)

The C-RV is a very convenient car for commuters for many reasons; everything is so handy specially the cruise control system that allows you to speed up or slow down with just two buttons on the steering wheel.

The only problem with the CR-V that I find is that it's somewhere between categories, so it is not as fun to drive and easy to park as a small European car and yet it doesn't quite function 100% as a truck since it doesn't have much torque.

The car does have some really cool features like a cooler and a pic-nic table in the back along with an extra electricity plug and a roof rack which makes this car a camping straight shooter.

I will strongly recommend this car as far as reliability, but as far as performance I have to warn you that it is not the quickest car in the lot (and mine is 5-speed, the automatic must be worse in that dept.)... I mean well, it does get pretty quick on highways, but the take off is a little slow, make sure to get this car in stick which was only produced since 1999. but again it's a 4 cyl. so if what you want is a quick SUV type vehicle then get a Ford Escape 6cyl manual which is everything the CR-V is, has better looks, but I'm sure it will die a hundred miles before the CR-V starts getting a little rusty.

The CR-V is a GREAT CAR!!!

By "vech" I think he/she meant "vehicle". I don't think they were implying that it had v-tec... :|

1999 Honda CR-V LX from North America

Summary:

Dependable low cost SUV with great resale

Faults:

Engine sensor went out at 6,000 while on a trip.

All painted plastic parts (grill & read hatch cover) need repainted as the paint is wearing out.

All exterior rubber and plastic trim is aging very quickly and getting hazy. Engine shakes on acceleration and transmission clunks and slips from low to second. Honda dealer where CR-V was purchased new refused to find anything wrong with the vehicle while it was still under warranty.

Honda Customer Service is the worst!

General Comments:

Consumer Reports rates this vehicle better than average in every category. I bought the Cr-V after driving every small SUV made during 1999.

Very easy to drive and park. Good driving position. Reasonably confortable seats. Folding down the rear seats are a hassle. Rear door design is inconvenient. Window and door lock control locations are very confusing. Storage drawer under the passenger seat falls out every time. Honda corrected all these flaws on the new 2002+ CR-V.
