2000 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5 from North America

Summary:

Overall it is a good product, but for the money I would have expected better reliability

Faults:

Brakes had to be machined at 50000 km.

Transmission was replaced at 86000 km.

In-dash Clock light hasn't been functioning for over a year.

Some rumbling sounds are coming from the right power sliding door.

General Comments:

I loved this van and thought it was an excellent family vehicle. It gets reasonable gas mileage, has enough power, and is large enough to accommodate a group of people or cargo. Since my transmission failure at 86000 km though, I am suspicious of how long this new one will last, and what else may go wrong. I had always been a big believer in Honda reliability and this incident has seriously shaken my confidence.

2000 Honda Odyssey LX from North America

Summary:

Fix the Door Problems

Faults:

The side doors have stuck 4 times. This last time American Honda refuses to fix them. This is really a safety issue that they have been ignoring. They also want me to pay money to a dealer that I gives me poor service just to tell me that the doors don't work. I guess they are going to wait until someone gets hurt before they help us out. I would have bought a Ford Pinto if I wanted that type of service.

General Comments:

I love the rear fold down seat.

The power of the van is good.

Honda has fixed this defect three times for me, but didn't fix the body damage that the defective doors caused.

The stock tires and brakes wore out at 40K miles.

Air Conditioning is great so far.

I have the 2000 Odyssey and have the same problem that the sliding door on the passenger side does not fully latch in after closing. The door needs a "calibrated" shove to fully latch it.

I'm happy for you that your air conditioning works - so far. My air conditioner failed after 33,000 miles, well under the 36,000 mile warranty limit. Honda refused to fix it under warranty because I had the Odyssey for almost 40 months, less than 3 months over the warranty limit. I certainly would have expected a company concerned with its reputation to have fixed at no charge under the warranty. Honda no longer deserves its alleged good reputaion in my mind.

I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey... Drivers side power door won't close all the way. We have to "bump" it to get it closed. Otherwise, the car seems to be fine. There is evidence that the previous owner had the door off for some kind of work... there's even a dent from the inside out.

Anybody know a fix for the door problem?

Thought my air conditioner is still work, I heard a big noise for right front side when I turn on. My 2003 car is only 22,000 miles, but Honda refused to fix it because I had the Odyssey for 41 months (more than the warranty limit 36 months). I like the HONDA except dealer.

2000 Honda Odyssey EX V6 from North America

Summary:

A big white chunk of Junk

Faults:

The power sliding doors are a very big problem with the van. The van has been in the repair shop 7 time and the doors are still not correct.

The power rear vents have been a problem in the past. It took 3 trips to the dealer to correct.

I have replaced all of the rear brake lights twice.

The Automatic Air Conditioner does not work correctly. The fan speed controller does not turn the fan speed to max automatically even on the hottest days (90 degrees in the hot sun) the fan speeds stays on low.

The automatic transmission gear selector is not easy to use. The gear selector passes Drive 4 and goes down to 2nd gear.

General Comments:

The van was a problem from the first day. We have worked with the dealer (s) trying to get the problems corrected, but they cannot correct them.

I can say with no remorse that this is the LAST Honda product that I will ever buy.

We have had our 2000 Odyssey for 5 1/2 years (100,00 miles) and have not had any of these problems. We love it. We did have a computer problem which affected the transmission. The computer was replaced under the original warranty.
