1991 Honda Prelude Si 2.0 from North America

Summary:

A good, reliable, smooth running and thrifty bargain

Faults:

This car has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. I am 55 years old. From the day I purchased it (Sept. 1998) till today all I have done is put gas in and change the oil. The car has 177,000 miles on it now and it still runs and looks like new! Nothing has gone wrong with the car! Everything works!

The paint still looks new. People at gas stations ask me where I had the car painted. Their jaws drop when I tell them that this is the original paint. I do not have a garage, so the paint does suffer a bit in the hot sun in this part of California.

General Comments:

It gives me 30 miles/gallon, goes more then 400 miles on a tankfull on the highways; less in the city, may be 300 miles.

Everything works. Never had any problem. The first owner was a famous basketball player's wife. They kept the car garaged and well looked after. I am very lucky. Yes, I would buy a Honda again if I had money to spend on a new car. For now this 1991 beauty takes care of all my needs.

The timing belt was changed once by the previous owner. It got a major service at 150,000 miles before I bought it at 154,000. So I have done nothing to it so far. Oh yes, I replaced the battery and tires. I bought the best battery available DELCO 6 year and a set of Bridgestone Potenza tires.

I can relate. I have a 91 Prelude 2.0 SI and I purchased the car in early 1993. It is still running great. I've changed the timing belt twice, water pump, oil, and all the filters several times.

The only problems:

1. Cat converter

2. The rattling at about 4500 rpm - there are two pipes that comes down from the manifold which rattles at certain rpms.

Later..

I still have the Lude and not planning on getting rid of it anytime soon. My Lude still has that showroom look.

I am 24 and have had a Midnight Blue 1991 Honda Prelude 2.1 SR 4WS Special Edition for around six months. This has been the best car I have ever owned. I bought it for a steal while working at a Honda dealership in British Columbia.

The car was immaculate with 172,000kms and to my surprise it even had a leather interior. I have done a lot of work to the car since I have owned it and I am by no means a mechanic.

Best points of this car:

-Good horsepower (145hp stock)

-Good economy (Almost 600kms to a tank)

-Comfort (Great bucket seats, tons of support)

-Looks (Very sleek lines and trim)

-Reliability (Never had an issue)

Change the belts every 100,000k, oil change every 5000k, fuel treatments every 3000k, this car will not die on you.

General Comments:

This car handles real good, thanks to the 4 wheel steering, and high performance suspension - Tokico Illumina, Cusco tie bars (front and rear) and OZ F1 Cup wheels. A sure footed car. Car to driver feedback is excellent.

Ergonomics are outstanding. Fit and finish are excellent.

Attention to detail by the manufacturer is really good for a sports compact car.
