2000 Honda S2000 2.0 from North America

Summary:

You don't know what you're missing!

Faults:

Nothing, just replaced battery since it was old when I bought it.

General Comments:

This car is incredible for the money. The seats hug your body and look brand new even though they are 6 years old.

The shifter, transmission, and suspension are out of this world. After you get used to it most cars feel as loose as trucks. The only downsides are that you have to worry about seat theft and the paint can chip pretty easily since the car sits low to the ground. It gets plenty of looks and girls seem to like it, but don't just buy it for that. The ride is rough and all the power is between 6-9,000rpms. It takes some getting used to, but now I absolutely love it.

My friends 350z convert seemed a bit cheap compared to the s2000, maybe because he didn't take very good care of it, but it was still plagued with problems, and his was a 2004!

This car fit me fine, and I'm 6'1 155lbs. It did NOT fit my friend who was about 6'3 210lbs, there was not enough leg room on drivers side. Honda should have made the steering wheel tilt like the rx-8 but it will fit people 6'1" and under easy.

Absolutely incredible car, it looks even better in person. Overall, WAY too much fun for 16k!!

"You don't know what you're missing!"

True, but I do know one thing you are missing...torque!

1st Mar 2006, 22:14

Ride my new 06 yamaha R6 and I'll show you some horsepower at 17,500 RPM, yeeeeahhhh...!

Torque isn't everything, there's a certain grin that plasters your face when a car's engine is banging gears and revving high. Hard to explain, but you know what I'm talking about.

2000 Honda S2000 I-4 from North America

Summary:

A street legal race car

Faults:

I bought mine in September 2000 with 15 miles. The car now has 16k miles and like most other '00 S2000s the transmission has a grind when shifting in high rpms from 1st to 2nd gear. The transmission also emitted a rattling sound when decelerating (Fixed under warranty). The back plastic window was hard to look through from the day I drove it home from the dealership due to folds. The window is even harder to view through now due to age and scratches. Supposedly the back taillights will lose their red color if subjected to a lot of sunlight. The driver side window regulator had to be replaced twice because the window would not go down with the top. The side marker lights are easy to break off. I broke one off when I was drying my car ($40).

General Comments:

This car is not my daily driver. I only drive it with the top down, so I don't notice the poor quality rear window. This car is very fast on flat roads, but when you are going up hills you will notice the lack of torque (This is easily remedyed by down-shifting). The xenon headlights are fantastic. I almost never need my brights however, going over bumps on the road may make the person ahead of you think that you are flashing them your brights.

2000 Honda S2000 2.0 VTEC from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Awesome!

Faults:

The left speaker did not work properly. Had some crackling noise. But since it was still part of the used car warranty (3 months), I was able to have it fixed.

Apart from that, nothing else has gone wrong with this car so far.

General Comments:

Well, this car is a beast. By far and away the best car I've driven. The performance is simply amazing. I'll sum up the accelaration in one line: From a standing start, I took it to 140km/h and then back to 0 over about 150-180 metres of road.

Anyone thinking about getting this car should get either the white or the red. The Formula red is just a beautiful colour, and if well polished, is one of the most eye catching cars on the road.

The engine is quite loud and there are only 2 speakers. So, whatever music that comes through the speakers gets drowned by the engine. With the top down, you can't hear much, if anything. But I certainly didn't buy this car so that I can listen to music!

The car is quite comfortable to sit in. I'm quite small at 5'8" and about 70 kilos, but I feel that I just blend in with the car. All controls are within reach of the driver.

Of course, enough cannot be said about the VTEC engine. Once the 6000 rpm is hit, the car just takes off. Some people have mentioned that the take off is like turbo. Well, it's not quite true but you can definitely feel it. Let's say 2/3 turbo.

But if I had to choose my most favourite characterisitic of the car, it would have to be the handling. U can quite easily take corners or turns at 20 km/h over the normal speed you would do that same corner/turn with a Lancer.

Overall, this car is simply fantastic. And a real head turner. :)
