2001 Hyundai Accent GS 1.5 from North America

Summary:

Disappointing

Faults:

Rebuilt the automatic transmission twice for a total of $3500 dollars.

Replaced engine $2700, because if your timing belt goes, so does your engine, unlike my Suzuki when it went. Both went before their replacement time.

I am now getting rid of it, because if you get a fuel line leak and you need to replace the line, you have to replace both the gas and brake lines back to front to the tune of $1400.

If you have to replace the catalytic converter, you also have to replace the exhaust manifold. I got a used one for it, but still cost $600.00 installed.

General Comments:

A nice looking car, and it was comfortable with lots of trunk space for its size.

Good gas mileage in summer, but with winter it did suffer some.

2001 Hyundai Accent GLX 1.3 petrol from United Arab Emirates

Summary:

I don't love the car and I don't hate the car, it just does the job

Faults:

1. Rear door handles - broken

2. Wheel alignment - inside wear and tear

3. FM aerial - lost housing rubber

4. Color - faded from the sun

General Comments:

I don't love the car and I don't hate the car. It does exactly what it was designed to do.

Besides fixing some odds and sods, it won't rob your wallet, and it won't pick up chicks, it's just a means to an end.

2001 Hyundai Accent GL 1.5 from North America

Summary:

A great budget decision

Faults:

Transmission seems to struggle sometimes, but that could be due to driving in overdrive all the time. We made an effort to use overdrive only on highway and the problem has gone away for almost two years.

General Comments:

It has great gas mileage, I would definitely buy the newer model when the time comes up.

Seats aren't very comfortable for both front and back passengers.

2001 Hyundai Accent 1.5L from North America

Summary:

O2 sensor is too unreliable and 3rd gear doesn't work

General Comments:

I have 2001 Hyundai Accent 1.5l I recently changed O2 sensor (bought it from dealer) and spark plugs however I in less than 3 months check engine light came back so I went to AutoZone to check it out. They said I need to change oxygen sensor and spark plug #3 (again?).

Another problem is 3rd won't shift unless I add a little gas before shifting it in (some times it works some times doesn't).

2001 Hyundai Accent GSI 1.6L from North America

Summary:

Affordable, but not economical!!!

Faults:

Total piece of junk. Let me just say one word...TRANSMISSION...what transmission? I've put two in this thing. No power, just a nice loud sound like I'm driving a monster truck, can it rev any higher? I've have moved greater distances at some times when my friends are pushing me.

Wheel bearing went extremely fast. Enough rattling to almost have steering wheel rattle loose and make me feel like I had parkinson's when I got out the car with my hands still shaking.

Tire wear was insane as well. For a short commute I take there is no reason for this extreme wear and tear.

General Comments:

Not worth the hassle. Never hated a vehicle this much in my life. Great when I first get things fixed. This is short lived though. I don't believe a transmission should go after only 5 months. This car is in no way a high performance vehicle and is not driven like it is one so there should be no reason for the transmission to be crapping out so quick.

2001 Hyundai Accent GS Hatchback 1.6 from North America

Summary:

One heck of a car to depend on!

Faults:

Brakes.

Wheel bearings.

Windows hard to roll up.

Bought the car with no overdrive.

General Comments:

This car is great! I believe it's more than a starter car for someone. I work for Pizza Hut, and this car is a god sent item. It's cheap and looks great. I never have to worry about parts being too expensive. Very cute! Very dependable.

2001 Hyundai Accent GL 1.6 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Will go to Mount Doom and back with a smile

Faults:

New tie rods needed (my fault).

New O2 sensors (my fault, off-road octane booster).

New springs needed (my fault)m WAY too much load.

General Comments:

Got this car as my first in 2001 with 11,000 miles on it as a starter car. Well I still have it because it have survived my teenage years of abuse to include:

6 people in the car with beer included (don't ask).

No air filter for at least 40,000 miles.

3 engine floods.

10,000 miles between oil changes.

No O2 sensors (just runs rich is all).

Countless trips from from TX to NY PA VA MI.

Teenage driving, offroading.

Countless abuses to name.

Well now it's at an old 91000 miles and it still starts up every morning, has good handling still, and is still very comfortable and peppy.

I would recommend this car to anyone young and old who wants a cheap solid mode of transport. It it survived me, and it will definitely get 150,000 when taken care of. And yes, it is STILL my daily driver.
