2017 Hyundai Accent GL 1.6L GDI from North America

Summary:

Cheap and cheerful!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This was purchased used from a family friend. This is being used as a secondary car in our house (commuter/grocery getter). This is not the family car.

The car is a subcompact so you must keep your expectations in check. I was pleasantly surprised by the fuel economy. The car can keep up with city traffic just fine. It just takes a few seconds longer than our other car (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport) to reach 100km/h.

There are benefits to a small car. Easy to park, cheap on gas, tires are tiny (14 inch) so new winter tires were cheap! What else can you ask for?

The interior is much nicer than I thought it would be. Front seat is not as comfortable as the Santa Fe Sport, but I've managed to live with it.

There must be less sound dampening in this car. Road noise is louder than the Santa Fe Sport. I have adjusted the tire pressure so it helped a little bit.

The car is easy to work on. It's easy to change lights/cabin air filter/engine air filter. No mechanic required!

I am happy with this purchase. I prefer driving this around over the Santa Fe Sport. My wife asks why, since she likes the Santa Fe Sport better; I told her it's a zippy car and fun to drive!

2017 Hyundai Accent SE 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Surprising value and comfort on a shoe string ~~!!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

One word... 'substance'!

Had planned to buy a new 2019 model, only to learn that they no longer provide a CD player or FM radio in the new ones. The last year that had both is 2017, so I shopped for one of those.

Even after its inaugural life as a rental, the one I bought is clean and quiet, especially with the new touring tires added.

It was a hard choice to move away from owning classic cars to something in this century, but having made that choice, the 2017 Hyundai Accent is as close to uncomplicated mechanicals as possible in its era.

Added note, some have commented on 'cheap plastics' ~~ this Accent is trimmed nicely in what looks like brushed pewter, with contrasting black and gray leather-ish hard surfaces... easy to care for and sturdy.

The seats have strong fabric and are comfortable, also.

In all, amazing value for less than $10,000., with one of the longest warranties available.

Fuel economy is stunning... currently averaging 34 MPG, combined town and motorway driving.

Ample acceleration on highway ramps, smooth transmission shifts and quiet on the road.

This is not equal to my former classic Volvo, but exceeds it in many aspects... without pretense, or the extravagant mechanic costs!

How's about reporting back here after at least 15K-20K miles ?

It would be interesting to see if you still rate it 10/10 on EVERYTHING.

Will be glad to report back.

Over the years, I've had two other Hyundai Accents... 1995 and 2005, both purchased as used vehicles. Never any big issues with either, only parted with the 2005 because it was manual and a knee injury precluded extensive use of the clutch.

Nearly a year and a half later... just under 50,000 miles now.

Still in excellent condition, running well and affordable to maintain.

The 2017 Hyundai Accent SE has not disappointed, and I plan to keep it as long as it is willing to serve so wonderfully.

Further Update, February 27, 2022 ~~

Purchased in January 2019, with approximately 38,000 miles.

Serviced transmission around 45,000, and change oil (full synthetic) every Spring & Autumn, regardless of mileage.

Replaced battery and tires (scarcely worn) in January 2022; precautionary only, as key to reliability, safety and comfort.

Touching wood, continues to be a joy to drive and reliable.

Now has just under 52,000 miles (less active during Covid).

Deep Merino wool sheepskins add seat comfort, also warm in winter and cool in summer...

For anyone who seeks to avoid complicated electronics and gizmos in a vehicle, it's hard to surpass the 2017 Hyundai Accent SE.

And I love the low to mid 40s highway, low 30s around town; regular grade gas~~

2017 Hyundai Accent 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Decent car for an econobox

Faults:

No problems; this is a review of a rental.

General Comments:

Very good fuel mileage. Acceptable performance.

Lack of cruise control made a 660 mile trip not very comfortable. Very firm and uncomfortable seats. My wife had back surgery about a month before and seats were killing her back. Seat belt latch was too firm and didn't move enough.

Very roomy trunk.

Your wife just had back surgery and you rented a Hyundai Accent for a 660 mile trip?

What you said!!!

He probably rented a "Toyota Camry, or similar".
