BMW shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as a Hyundai. It's an insult to BMW.

For me, it's an insult to Hyundai to have that overpriced German garbage mentioned in the same sentence.

Actually, with Hyundai moving forward in leaps and bounds, I'd say it's an insult to Hyundai. Everyone knows BMW's are crap mechanically, and will force you to remortgage your house to afford repairs. I won't say Hyundai is entirely better than BMW though. BMW is still faster and more powerful (when they run) and there interiors are nicer, but for nearly 4 times the price of the average Beemer, I'd certainly hope they would be. (It's important that you have a comfortable interior in a BMW, because your going to spend an awful lot of time waiting for a tow truck if you buy one. I know I would want to recline in my leather upholstered captain's chair while waiting for Billy Joe's Wrecking to come pick me up.)

Why compare a premium manufacturer such as BMW to a budget manufacturer like Hyundai? They are simply not in the same league and their respective price-points reflect this.

Just wondering from this thread, are the Hyundai Accents in Australia manufactured somewhere other than So. Korea???
Here in the States, we tend to think they're rather good value for a most reasonable price; hold up well; get superb gas mileage; also most comfortable for road trips and/or around town. Quite surprised by this review.

Must confess to being confused, also... have had a very BASIC Accent GS for about a year now, and find it extremely comfortable and fuel efficient; 31mpg US gallon/city and nearly 30mpg US gallon/highway. Have many compliments from front seat passengers regarding leg room and cabin space.
No one has gotten near enough to the 'plastics' to do any scratching???!!! What are you doing down there in Australia to damage your interior... transporting wild cats???
As for price, dear lawdy... just try to find a better value ~~!!
PS. I've had BMWs and it's just a valid comparison on any level... especially reliability!

"A relatively expensive car"... you're kidding right? Sounds like you were expecting a BMW or something, which generally aren't as reliable as Hyundai Accents by the way. The Accent, like many modern cars, has softer plastics that you have to treat with care.
As for the "gaps"... it has excellent fit and finish, which is obvious to anyone sitting in one. Some people just like to grumble and gripe I guess.
