2002 Hyundai Atoz Prime 1.1 from Norway

Summary:

Solid, but beware of resale value

Faults:

Well built car with few problems. Only thing on this car that is poorly designed is the brakes that last for a year or two. But this car never did any high km figure, so I don't know how it will work beyond 100.000 km.

General Comments:

This is my mother in law's car. She just sold it and bought a new one. Before this one she had a 2000 model. She just loves these funny little cars.

Great city car with light clutch and steering. But don't do long trips in it.

Resale value after 5 years is equal to nothing when trade in, but new price is low so it probably does not matter. These cars must be bargains second hand if you do your own maintenance.

These strange little cars are very resilient. Driving in one, it may feel like it's falling apart with rattles and shaking. Fit and finish is nonexistent, and after a couple of years they often look like a wreck. But they seem almost impossible to destroy. For some reason they always start. My sister has one that's 10 years old, and I don't think she's been changing the oil for years. It looks like a wreck, but always starts.

2002 Hyundai Atoz GLM 999cc from Malaysia

Summary:

Good looking, but less reliable

Faults:

Creaks in front wheel appeared when drive on uneven roads or hit bumps. This happened few days after picking up the car from dealer. Mechanics tightened up the bolts, but problem remains unsolved.

Clutch cable loosened up completely at around 10,000km, and unable to shift gear. Called Hyundai mechanic to manually fix the problem, free of charge.

Irritating noise at rear wheel drum brakes, caused by uneven brake pads, according to mechanic. Problems were immediately solved after sanding the brake pads, but recurred not long thereafter. Free of charge cause still under warranty.

Vibration at doors.

General Comments:

Economical to drive and easy parking. But front seats less comfortable because of big center console.

Good acceleration after re-programming the engine control unit.

2002 Hyundai Atoz GLS 999cc from Korea

Summary:

Averagely acceptable

Faults:

Pick-up of car is very slow especially when riding up hill. When slow down at traffic jams, it went faster than usual. Therefore, had to press the brake frequently.

The moment that I need it fast, it slows and the moment that I need it slow, it went fast.

Fuel consumption is high at RM 0.19 per kilometer where an average car is around RM 0.10.

General Comments:

On overall, I think the cc is not enough to carry the weight of the car. But the body of the car is good i.e. not easily dented when hit.

Well I have a Hyundai Atos 98 GLS and actually think that this car is a budget car, opposite to the above review in my opinion this car has very low fuel consumption 45-50mpg, it has a lightweight body with a 999cc engine, it can be easly dented but its quite reliable on the whole, the electrics gave me some trouble at first but now its all sorted, a frugal car for those searching for their first cheap car a second runabout... I can say it's a loyal workhorse cheap, economical but reliable.
