1999 Hyundai Lantra 1.8 litre from Australia and New Zealand
Summary:
A small reliable car, if a bit heavy on fuel
Faults:
A component of the driver's side electric window motor snapped, and had to be replaced at cost. (September 04).
Remote key less entry/central locking mechanism stopped working for no apparent reason. (July 04).
General Comments:
This car is very reliable, and has always started when I turned the key. When I first bought the car I did not treat it very well, and drove it very hard and rough. The car survived, and now drives excellently. It is a bit small to those who have a family to consider, and the boot size is not big enough to fit a pram and the groceries. Also the back seat is small, and could comfortably fit two medium sized adults, but not 3.
The car seems to go through a lot of fuel, both in the city and on the highway, we don't understand why because it has been serviced.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

My wife owns a 99 Lantra. Not my choice of car as the cheap plastic interior and exterior lets it down.
The engine is reliable except for a few hose leaks, but I find the manual gear ratios not suited to the engine.
If all one needs is a cheap reliable vehicle that you don't plan to keep long term, it is probably the best offering brand to come out of Korea.
