2004 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 2WD 3.5 from North America

Summary:

Super!

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

I’m 6’ 2 ” and 250 pounds. I‘ve had the Santa Fe (2004) GLS 3.5L for about 8 months. I’ve had no problems at all. That A/C thing – I never experienced it. I don’t know what the guy is talking about.

I researched crash data and prices first and this was the best vehicle that met my needs.

Point: I fit in the driving position – but just barely. I’d like a little more room, but I’m not willing to pay 30K for it (I got the car for 19K flat). There is a little delay between pressing on the gas and acceleration; however, there is a factory service bulletin that addresses that.

I’m not sorry I got the Santa Fe. Other vehicles had some serious problems (like the back hatch swings to the right and not up) and, by comparison, pricey with fewer features. This has been an exceptional buy – a really good car. You’d be nuts not to consider the Santa Fe if a medium-small SUV is what your after (mines a 2WD and silver)

I agree. I love my Santa Fe. It's a 2004 as well and do not regret buying it at all. I would buy another one just so my wife can have one too. I have the 2.4L Theta in it and it gets great gas mileage, about 30 combined. I definitely recommend this to anyone. I wanted a Dodge Dakota Quad Cab but my wife talked about Hyundai's like they were the best thing out there and I think they are definitely up there. We took her 2002 Elantra from Kingsport, Tn to Jacksonville, Fl on one tank of gas. I now swear by this company. They make a fine set of automobiles.

2004 Hyundai Santa Fe CRTD 2 litre diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is a first class car. We use it for towing our caravan (1208kg) which it does superbly in all respects and gives about 30 mpg towing and 38 mpg solo. Excellent on farmer's wet fields even with the caravan attached.

The space is wonderful with plenty of room every where.

The turbo-diesel engine is quiet in the cab and responsive. I had to top the oil up at 6k miles.

Service costs could be high. The dealer quoted £380 for the first service. My local garage using Hyundai parts and service schedule charged me £182. The biggest item was the pollen filter at £38! (In the EU you can have your car serviced any where as long as the service conforms to the manufacturer's schedule.)

2004 Hyundai Santa Fe LX 6 cylinder from North America

Faults:

We purchased the car in June of 2004. In August we also heard a funny noise when we put on the brakes or begin to back up.

We took the car into the dealer. They told us that we would need to have the transmission replaced. I am a little upset because I am afraid that we have bought a lemon, but we did purchase the 10 year bumper to bumper warranty.

General Comments:

I read reviews on the car before we purchased it and it got really good ratings. Hopefully, nothing else will go wrong.

2004 Hyundai Santa Fe from North America

Summary:

Disaster

Faults:

The alarm never worked and one week after I got it, the transmission went out. I had the car for 5 days and then it was in the shop and has been there since. The transmission has to be replaced after one week!!

General Comments:

I read the great reviews and wonder if I'm the only one who has had these problems. I was going to buy a Toyota RAV4 and now regret that I didn't do that - unfortunately, its too late for me now.

I would venture to say that you are DEFINITELY one of those people who got a lemon. YOu REALLY need to check out the lemon law and how you can make it work for you!

You are not the only one this has happened to. I to had to have a transmission replaced during the first week of ownership. I have owned the car since June and it has been in the shop 3 times for the same problem. I have received no satisfaction from anyone. It is still making the same noise that it did the first time I took it and they thought it was the transmission. I understand your frustration.
