I too have a 2012 Santa Fe and it gives my wife and I back aches and headaches from driving. My wife is a traveling nurse and I am trying to find a way to make it a little more bearable for the time. Has anyone tried taking the seat out of a Kia Sorento and putting it in? I didn't see any complaints on those.

As for the test drive when buying a new car, sometimes we feel right away the seats are great, other times we feel the seats seem "OK", while other times we feel the seat is a little strange or seems a little uncomfortable. Given the big variation these days in seat comfort, I would advise if you have the slightest questioning about the seats, don't take a chance: rent that car for 2-3 days and drive it some long distance. If you still feel you are still not sure what to say about the seat comfort, consider that a no go, don't take chances. Many people have complained about seats in recent years on various car brands - Toyota, Hyundai, Mazda and so on. Having an uncomfortable seat in a new car is really a bad situation that cannot be tolerated in the long term; even bringing it to an upholster often times won't help.
It is often times difficult for a buyer to get a good idea about long-trip seat comfort during the usual 15-20 minutes car test drive. Seats design vary enormously between car makers and also often times between an old and a new model. One would think designing a seat should be a simple task, but this is far from the truth. It's a complex process that involves deep ergonomics, materials and body shape knowledge. Also, a car model may have a good seat in one generation, then a bad one in the next generation. It's just that they changed the design team and they don't care look back see what the previous team has done, they want to do their "own" design.
