1995 Hyundai Scoupe 1.7 non-turbo from North America

Summary:

Surprisingly reliable... the one model Hyundai got right!

Faults:

Not much has gone wrong to be honest... the transmission has always been weak. But, I've been driving it like that for 17,000 miles and it's not really noticeable until you hit speeds over 75MPH. I am actually having my first repair on the car done tomorrow... a new starter... $180. But, for a car with 147,000 miles on it, I can't complain. The only other things I've had done to the car are: new tires, new battery, and oil changes... regular maintenance. I've never had the A/C charged and it is ice-cold... I live in the desert, so this is important.

General Comments:

I purchased this car cheap... about $1000 about a year ago. I've already put 17,000 miles on the car. I was VERY reluctant to by anything with a "HYUNDAI" logo on it. But, I must admit, that the car has been very reliable and comfortable. I think that this is the only model Hyundai put out in pre-year-2000 that is reliable... I've heard that their other models (Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Excel) are real lemons. But, this model... the SCOUPE... is surprisingly good.

1995 Hyundai Scoupe LS from North America

Summary:

Medium

Faults:

Bad idles problem - Change spark pulg and fix the problem for a couple of month.

The cooling fan doesn't stop after engine is shut down - still investigating.

Loose transmission - Automatic - It feels likes it slippering.

General Comments:

In general, it's a good town car. But an the highway, I would need some extra HP, especially when climbing, even small hills.

1995 Hyundai Scoupe M.V.T.I. SE 1.5 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An absolute dream!

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

General Comments:

Simply the best performing, best looking, best handling car I have ever owned!

Reliability has been beyond reproach and the fuel consumption has never fallen below 36 m.p.g. despite always being driven very hard.

It is capable of 125 m.p.h. on half throttle and accelerates from 0-60 in just over 8 seconds!

1995 Hyundai Scoupe LS from North America

Summary:

A good buy if you don't expect a Lexus for the price of a Yugo

Faults:

I have only had this car for a little over a year, so I don't know what the previous owner had as far as problems. My problems are as listed below:

* new air conditioning system

* new water pump

* new struts, front and back

* new timing belt

* new catalytic converter

* new regulator in power window

* car doesn't always start on first try

* rattles in the doors and dash

* idle RPM surging.

General Comments:

I have only had the car for a year, and I have had to put a lot of money into repairs, but I only paid $1500 for the car. I wanted to get a new car recently and I was only offered between $1000 and $2000 for a trade-in.

There have been lots of repairs, but the car still runs at 109,000 miles!

As far as the look, I think the Scoupe is a cute little car and I am glad I got it.

1995 Hyundai Scoupe SE 1.5i petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Windscreen relaced due to water penetration.

Interior air vents replaced due to rattles.

Bonnet resprayed due to small paint blisters.

Suspension springs replaced due to broken spring.

General Comments:

I have had the car for a year having bought it secondhand with 24,000 miles. All the above problems were sorted under manufacturer 3 yr warranty except suspension which gave out six months after expiry of warranty. This has to be one of the most fun cars I have ever driven and would heartily recommend taking one for a spin. I shall be holding on to this one for a good few years to come.

p.s. This model comes with lowered suspension which makes handling a breeze but is bloody expensive to fix if it goes wrong.

1995 Hyundai Scoupe LS 4 cylinder from North America

Faults:

Windshield-stress crack

Chipped hubcap

Engine static in radio

Rubber moldings loose

Paint fell off

Doors weren't aligned

Loose nut behind steering wheel

Hesitation in transmission

General Comments:

This was my first car. The car was totaled in January of 1997. I was hit head-on by a drunk driver. Rescue squad workers said that my saving grace was the fact that the car didn't have an airbag. The car was made very cheaply - the metal just crumpled. I would like to get a Tiburon, but refuse to since the dealership treated me so bad.

How did NOT having an airbag save your life? Confused.
