2010 Hyundai Sonata from North America

Summary:

Extremely disappointed..

Faults:

Paint chip on hood - being repainted.

Major issue with headlights - extremely poor visibility at night.

Navigation system (GPS) is the absolute worst I've ever used.

Cargo net for trunk - a laugh - totally non-functional.

Seatbelt frequently 'catches' when you go to put it on.

General Comments:

Headlight problem - Horizontal 'line' across dashboard - pitch black above line (in line with your eyes), headlights light road below the line. First time I drove at night, I thought there was something wrong with my eyes, but my husband was with me and verified what I was seeing.

Very dangerous! As you drive along country roads with hills, the line of vision gets smaller as you go down hills and slightly greater as you go up hills. The only time you can truly see the road well is when you have the high beams on, and you certainly can't drive with them on all the time.

Same is true in loaner car I currently have, so obviously it's a manufacturing/design flaw.

GPS/Navigation system - absolutely terrible! Living in a rural area, most of the roads are defined with route numbers, yet the GPS does not recognize them. No one using this GPS would ever find their way around my area - gives names that don't exist. Even when I drove to Harrisburg, PA, the navigation system gave me highway names that were not listed on signs instead of providing Interstate Rt. Numbers. When I travel, I have to borrow my husband's Garmin - don't waste $1200 on this built in navigation system. Garmin is 100 times better.

I drive a 2010 Sonata and I too don't get the posted mileage. I get even better mileage, like 33MPG highway with the 3.3L V6. I have no problem with night driving and my GPS works just fine. The only second rate cars I can think of are the Detroit garbage that I will NEVER purchase again.

2010 Hyundai Sonata Limited 3.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

So far, no regrets with this purchase

Faults:

Nothing in this short period of time.

General Comments:

The car was purchased within the past week, so only first impressions can be highlighted. The car appears to be very well constructed, the engine has abundant power, and I expect the performance to improve further as the engine breaks in.

The doors close with a soft thunk, and the ride is very comfortable. Based on my past experience with a 2004 Sonata, I expect many good years of motoring with this car.

I rent Sonatas frequently and have driven every conceivable configuration that Hyundai offers in the model. Some units had more than 30,000 miles on them and were still tight as drums. I personally like the car and would consider purchasing one. My personal car is a Mercedes Benz C250, and sure, there's a difference in quality, but it's not that big of a gap to warrant the difference in price.

An update to the original review. I have 3800 miles on the odometer and the car has been flawless. We took the car out of town this weekend, and according to the computer, averaged 32 MPG on the highway. I used slightly more than 1/4 of a tank of fuel in 190 miles. This is with the V6.

WOW! 33mpg with the V6 is great! I'm thinking of buying the 10 Sonata. (The 10, not the new redesign.) Thanks for your review.

I have another update. The car has 26,000 miles on it, and has been absolutely trouble free. This one is a keeper.

As the original reviewer, I traded the Sonata in on a new F150. The car served me very well, but I wanted a truck with 4WD. I would recommend these cars to anyone.
