1998 Hyundai Tiburon SE 2.0 from North America

Summary:

A sweet looking masterpiece with decent performance

Faults:

Since November, I have had the computer replaced (warranty covered), and the engine sensor replaced (apparently the sensor was dirty).

I have also replaced a battery in that time.

I recently got into an accident with the vehicle and the rebar did its job well. The way I hit I thought I would have had a lot more damage, but the frame is constant and the engine is fine. I haven't seen any crash ratings, but this car must have done well.

General Comments:

I love this car. It was frustrating in the beginning with the computer (the only thing it really affected was the cruise control) and the spark plug going and the battery going, and the check engine light, but I have not had a problem in about 5 or six months. It may have been the previous owners fault.

The car handles as well as you can hang on. I've kicked it up to 198km/h no problem on two seperate occasions, quiet and steady all the while. The pick up is a little slow, don't bother drag racing this badboy in manual, you'll embarrass yourself. The throw is a little long into 5th, I am 5'11" and sometimes it's a stretch.

The seating is definitely for someone around 5'9" - 5'10" in my estimation. It almost seems that the seats are not large enough on the sides. I'm about 160lb.

All in all, for the price and the style and the performance, this car is a steal. I love the Tiburon, I hope by the time I am done with this one they will still have the same sweet design and offer even better performance.

1998 Hyundai Tiburon from North America

Summary:

Definitely lots of bang and style for the buck!

Faults:

The clear coat on the vehicle is coming off.

General Comments:

This car has the look of no other has out there. That is why I purchased it. I don't see 50 of them when I drive, that is nice because it makes it all that more unique to me. To this day, I still get people who ask me what the car is as they have not seen one.

Now, Hyundai, in my opinion, did not do a good job redesigning the new model, which makes me love my model even more!

I love my car. It's fun, it's sporty, good inside and out, and it looks great!

1998 Hyundai Tiburon from North America

Faults:

I have only owned it barely a year and the paint is flying off it at the speed of light. On the spoiler, roof, door handles (and not just around the key hole - at the front the wind is pulling it off!) and the side view mirrors on the front side, all of the paint has "blown" off and I am in the process of contacting Hyundai because there is no way a proper paint job would do this!

The "check engine light" is on every time I fuel up and I found out that it is due to a fuel tank leak I have.

I was looking on the net trying to find someone with the same paint problem as I have, and found out why my engine light was on and why I wasn't getting the gas mileage I used to instead.

I love my car, that is why I am so upset. It is comfortable and stylish. If Hyundai fixes all these problems for me then yes, I will buy another Hyundai. I like their new SUV that just came out.

When I bought my Tiburon, after approx 6 months the paint on the passenger's side rear view mirror started to fly off. I took it to the Hyundai here in Miami and they had the mirror repainted at no cost to me...

Good luck!

I purchased a 1999 Hyundai Sonata 2 years ago. The paint on the side mirrors and door molding on the passenger side is also "flying" off. Hyundai will not pay to repair the paint because I have 54,000 miles on the car and the warranty only covers the paint up to 36,000 miles. The dealership said they would not fix it because "we don't know what you've been doing to the car or where you've been driving it". I think a class action lawsuit is in order for all us Hyundai owners with paint problems.
