1999 Hyundai Tiburon FX 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Sporty... turns heads

Faults:

I have owned my 99 Tiburon (5 speed manual) since 2001. I was the second owner. When I bought it there was 55,000km on it. Now I am at 190,000km and I am starting to get a pulsating only when I'm in 5th gear... I think it's something to do with the transmission (cause when I'm in neutral the noise disappears). Does anyone have any idea what it could be???

General Comments:

Great car, but needs to be maintained. If you are not mechanically inclined... don't buy this car.

I have had to fix all kinds of little things that would have cost a fortune at the garage (ie... wiper linkage twice, wiper motor, power window linkage on driver's side, all bearings, and they are sensitive and need to be torqued to spec (garages always screw this up by using air tools instead of a torque wrench), alternator twice, regular brake jobs)... the rest of the stuff I had done professionally (ie... struts, clutch).

1999 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0 from North America

Summary:

This car looks like nothing else on the road, is fun to drive, and very reliable

Faults:

The timing belt had to be replaced after I'd had the car one year.

I had the rear brakes replaced last month. This is a routine repair and the first time I'd ever had to have new ones put one since purchasing the car.

I had to replace the clutch this month.

General Comments:

The low, bucket seats are very comfortable.

There are almost no blinds spots on this car compared to my last, a Ford Escort ZX2.

The handling is very reliable and responds quickly; if it were a person it would have cat like reflexes.

Gets great gas mileage.

It has very quick acceleration (manual transmission).

In the 4 years I've had my car, I've only recently had to have major repairs done.

I've loved owning this car and am looking into getting a slightly newer one.

The statement that it “looks like nothing else on the road” seems to ignore the prevailing styling cues of the nineties — bulbous proportions, rounded edges, circular headlight, flowing ‘organic’ character lines. You can see them from the Camaro to the Celica. From your own ZX2 to even the catfish Taurus.

But then, no one thinks their baby is ugly.

1999 Hyundai Tiburon FX 2.0 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Reliable, economical and sporty

Faults:

Mainly minor things...

Front cup holders are worthless.

Seat-belts do not retract.

Paint chips easily.

General Comments:

Overall I am pleased with this car. It has been very reliable and gets decent gas mileage. I have an auto and get on average around 26-27 mpg combined. Interior is sporty looking, exterior is OK.

Another 20hp would be great. Pretty quick in 1st and 2nd gear, but after that it really lacks. Highway passing from 50-70mph will take a little while.

I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable compact car with good gas mileage. Don't buy it for speed!

1999 Hyundai Tiburon FX 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Amazing value and great looking!

Faults:

Bought for very cheap because it needed new clutch, relatively cheap to fix. Everything else has been absolutely perfect!

General Comments:

I put a cold air intake and after market muffler, the car sounds great and runs beautifully! I am 100% satisfied with this car.

On the other hand I have had problems with the interior such as the console piece falling off and ashtray compartment breaking, but what do you expect with a car with this many kilometers?

Would definitely recommend this car to anyone. I live in an area where it is -30 to-40 10 months of the year, and it's still reliable.

1999 Hyundai Tiburon Base 2.0L turbo from North America

Summary:

Tight

Faults:

Hey, this is to all the people stomping on sharks. I bought this car cheap in 2006 with okay mileage. It was at 62,000 when I bought it.

Since then, I have turned in into a ricer. It pushed 267 HP at the wheels; it spins them in third like your mom's Honda does in first.

You can go to newtiburon.com and check out my page. The motor is stock internals pushing 11 psi ever day, with a custom Garrett turbo kit in a 3 inch custom turbo. So don't come up saying these are worthless. Just find a person that knows what he is doing!
