Good all round SUV

Nothing, apart from a brake lamp!

General Comments:

Very comfortable sturdy SUV. I'm not thrilled with either the performance or the gas mileage. It is on the large side, so that's to be expected I guess.

I've owned it a few months now and winter is here, so I've got Nokian Winter tires on it. It sticks to the road like glue! Handles amazing, but it is AWD so I expect that. It's a very reliable solid vehicle, and feels very safe to drive.

There's plenty of space in the back with the seats folded, and it has come in handy on a few occasions.

On the whole I'm very pleased with my Veracruz!

Update:

I've owned the car for nearly a year now. Not very impressed. Performance is so so.

A few weeks ago it started to hiccup when driving. Got worse so I took it in to the dealership. I had the tranny flushed earlier and a recall for the alternator was done, so I wondered if the problem was related. The dealership said there was carbon build up and suggested an emissions service. The plugs were also changed. After driving it for a week, the hiccuping returned and this time they found a faulty O2 sensor. I complained so they replaced it free of charge. It's OK now, but still doesn't feel quite right. I want to get rid of it, and this will be my last Hyundai. Going for a Camry, so we'll see how that works out!

General Comments:

Only had it a few months, but I've taken it on a few long trips, and I love it. Very smooth and comfortable to drive in. My girlfriend was a big fan of the other luxury SUVs (Lexus, Toyota etc) until she sat in this one. I got a good deal since the woman was returning to Greece and needed to sell it quickly. I had seen them around when I was looking at vehicles, but thought they were a bit on the large size for me. I couldn't pass this one up though when I went to look at it, since it has the gorgeous dark cherry paint and cream leather seats. I intend to drive this for a long time...

So I traded it a few months ago for a new Ford Fusion. The warning lamps on the dash came on (ECT, AWD and VSC) and parts were changed which seemed to fix it for a few days, only to return... Otherwise a nice SUV to drive. Wouldn't buy another one though :-)

2011 Hyundai Veracruz Limited V6 from North America

Faults:

Engine blows up on my wife when on an out of state trip.. Mileage on the car when it left here this AM; 5,280 miles.

Now Hyundai wants to put a rebuilt/re-manufactured engine in the car, only pay for a 3 day rental, and that's a maybe we will, maybe we won't. Not pay for tow service and trip interruption, or even a hotel for the night, because we could not get on to their 1 800 service and had to use AAA.

Now they will need to keep the car for a week to 10 days before they can even get an engine from whatever re-builder they use. I also will need to eat the cost of not only going to pick my wife up when she returns the rental that I am paying for, which will be an out of state return, but also the cost of returning to the area to pick up the car after they put their REBUILT, not factory fresh, engine in it. NO, I will not buy another Hyundai ever, and as soon as I can, this one will be out of my driveway.

Customer service ---- run around ---- customer loyalty ---- only till you are out the door.

My next call is to my state AG.

That is appalling treatment, for a near brand-new car to have an engine blow up is bad enough, but to replace it with a second-hand one?? I'd be going to the media about this, shame them publicly. This is often what happens in Australia with lemon cars, and it usually gets results of some sort.

Hyundai is having problems with their engines, they are destroying themselves. Hyundai will replace the engine with one of comparable mileage, BUT the problem is they are reusing the fuel injection rail which is a one shot deal with these rails. With 20,000 PSI of fuel, the rails are spraying gas onto the motor and causing fires, and if that is not bad enough, if water gets into the ABS electrical system which then causes a fire, and the best part, it doesn't matter if you are driving the vehicle or not, it will just catch fire... PRETTY NICE EH?

A lot of car makers have had to cut corners to make a profit in this competitive market. But where do you cut corners at... suspension... engine building parts... metals like steel and alloys... plastics... smog... interiors... transmissions... technology... electronics... research and development monies... designs... and any numbers of other areas to sell their cars. It's a stiff market right now with predictions of a downward car market in 2020/2021. Anyone that buys a brand new car nowadays better know what they are doing.
