Highly recommended

Faults:

I had the fan belt break on me one time, after I had it in for an oil change and check up on a road trip. I called the dealer, and they paid for the tow truck and all repairs; they even put me in a hotel for the night.

General Comments:

I love it, Hyundai stands by their vehicles 110%. Some people don't get the extended warranty, and when something goes wrong they don't call their dealership. My advice to anyone with a problem with Hyundai - cash in on your warranty; that's what it's there for, and do your routine maintenance and you'll never EVER have a problem.

Summary:

A great Luxury car that anyone can afford

Faults:

I have had no significant problems with the car since I have owned it, other than the usual brake issue that I feel cost a little too much to repair.

General Comments:

This is the most ludurious car I have ever owned. If the Azara is as nice as the XG I will buy another Hyundai. I have always been a fan of large cars, and it still surprises my friends that I bought a Hyundai.

2001 Hyundai XG300 L from North America

Summary:

You get a bit more than you pay for.

Faults:

Front brake rotor replaced 20k miles

Radio works intermittently, no warranty.

LED display replaced at 30K, now going out again.

General Comments:

This is generally a good car with almost zero maintenance. Electronics are a bit weak, and tend to fail shortly after warranty expires. Seems to drive better the older the car gets. My particular car, after dealer computer reprogramming, drives like a race car, have to watch my speed. Hyundai did a decent job for the first horse out of the barn, and if you keep your expectations above Ford, Chevy or Chrysler and below Toyota and Honda, you'll probably be happy. It's not a Lexus, just a lot of car for the money.

Dump it

Faults:

First ten thousand miles the electronic brain went dead in the driveway. It has had three O2 sensor put on the car. For the last 68000 miles the check engine light keeps coming on and going off. So much in fact you just ignore it now until it is time to get the car inspected. Mirrors are supposed to go down when you put it in reverse. Sometimes this happens. Most of the time not. When going from second to third at high acceleration there is a shudder in the drive-train. Now it is back in the shop since the radio turns on by itself and there are many warning lights turned on and off and on and off...

Dealerships are confused. One has closed, but that is a blessing since it took them two times to attempt at replacing the brake pads and turning the rotors. Rotors were badly turned up front and were left warped. Took it back and it is still hopeless with quality control.

General Comments:

Everyone says how this brand has improved overall quality. I just don't believe it. Why? Their service should also be better if their cars are becoming better in overall quality. Service is poor. Quality is poor. I don't believe others' comments saying how great something is when they have only had it a short time. This does not allow a very good sampling of time to see if it is true or not.

2001 Hyundai XG300 from North America

Summary:

It's a nice car for day to day travel and long trips; not for sporty or spirited trekking though

Faults:

Heater leaking hot air even when the climate control was turned off.

Ignition coil (s) needed replacement (they were cracked) after 45,000 miles. This was an expensive undertaking as the replacement of plugs (where the coils are located) requires lifting/rotating the entire engine.

At 80,000 miles the alternator went out. Very expensive part! This was the cause of sputtering and assorted electronic maladies, such as radio gremlins, climate control misfires, gauge misreads, etc.

General Comments:

I see many of you reporting electronic problems. Know that the computer controls everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, in this car. So, as soon as you see something go bonkers, check the battery/alternator and associated mechanicals. A loose alternator belt is all it takes to cause some seemingly unrelated ailment. Also, check the connections to plugs/coils and all your wires. One crack or loose connection makes it seem as a lot more is wrong with the car. I say TLC is the key to happy motoring.
