2001 Hyundai XG300 3.0 from North America

I have owned this car for 37 months and I've had it at the dealership for warranty repairs virtually every month. I am now on my 5th transmission, along with numerous new computer components to resolve various problems. All the wheel bearings have gone bad and had to be replaced along with the complete windshield wiper system and numorous other items. Thank heaven for the bumper to bumper warranty otherwise this car would have cost me double. Obviously I got a lemon, but no one at Hyundai cares about my problems with this car. Luckily the dealer has been very helpful because they are feeling sorry for me. We all know each other by first names at the dealership.

General Comments:

The worst car I've ever owned. The performance is horrible in that you feel like you are driving a big stuffed pillow. Actually there is no performance to this car at all.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

General Comments:

I purchased a 2001 xg300L last week with 40K. The car has held up well under the previous owner and runs handles well. The ride is the best ride I have had in a car under $30,000. I know of the rating problems with the engine and everyone likes more power, but honestly it has plenty of get up and go, especially when passing. I tried to like the auto-stick, but find it hesitates slightly and is much smoother in the auto mode.

The reasons I choose this car:

1. Price. I went for a 2 year old car because it still has 20k of warranty left and still looks /drives new, but someone else took a horrific loss in depreciation. This car sold for $22-24,000 when new. I bought it retail from a dealer at $10,700!! The main reason for such a low resale value is still the perception of Hyundai. This stinks for anyone buying a new car, but is GREAT for people like me who wait a bit.

2. Looks. A very conservative & mildly elegant look.

3. Toys galore. Moon roof, heated leather and seat memory to name a few of the upscale toys. It would be nice though if it had a MPG readout. It gathers and interprets the data anyway.

4. Warranty. Still under bumper-bumper even after 40K!

I would stack my car up against any $30,000 used car for looks/amenities/reliability. I might lose in a race, but with how much I like driving it, I'm in no hurray to get any place.

Just an update. I've had the car 7 months now. Only one problem and that was a fuel mixture sensor that the warranty covered at 45,000. Car still looks, handles, rides like a $30,000 car. My Hyundai dealership service dept is top notch. That makes a big difference.

Another update on this car. Now has 59,000 and L rear bearing is bad, but still covered under warranty. My dealer service dept is the best I've ever had to deal with in my 28 years of owning cars. Still feel this is the best car I have ever owned when considering ride, power, feel, looks, toys, and no serious problems with car. I would buy another XG in a second!

I also own a 2001 XG 300L and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! Other than a couple very small rust spots on the trunk, it looks fabulous and I've had no trouble with it!

All my electric windows and drivers seat have stopped working. Not a fuse. Any ideas?

I have a 2001 XG300L that has given me nothing but problems from the beginning. Now the issue is the engine is making some bothersome knocking and rumbling noises. I also sense that when the car is accelerating, something feels "loose" underneath the car. Anyone have any ideas?

Might be the timing chain stretched slightly (unless it has a belt). My Nissan Maxima has made a slight tinkling noise for years when accelerating hard. Somebody suggested this might be the reason.
