I have a 94 J30 with 90000 miles, and it has been a good car until the radio quit overnight. I pulled he head unit and sent it in to Willmans. They replaced a board ($160) and I reinstalled it; still no output. It turns on and moves channels as normal, no output. Replaced the rear speakers from a known good unit, still no output. Checked for power at the speaker and I have none. Got a manual and narrowed it down to the switching relay (pass side inner firewall). Pulled glove box, etc. Still can't get to it. Has anyone changed this this relay? How do I get to it? Thanks.

I own J30T and for the past 50k I have never had any problems. The car runs perfect (so far). I do oil changes every 5,000km and use premium fuel only. My instrument panel lights disappeared once and after I played with the switch they came back on. The CD doesn't work when the car warms up - go figure. I have changed brake pads with ceramic ones and the rotors with after market cross drilled zinc plated ones. The brakes will stop you dead in your tracks, they are awesome. The antenna sometimes doesn't go all the way down. I usually clean it up with a dry cloth with some WD40 for lubrication. This usually works for a month.
Now my blower motor only works on high??? The A/C is engaging but the motor only works on high.
Is there a secret to it, or I simply need a new motor.
I have owned a few cars, but by far this 93 J30T beats them all.
Your comment are much appreciated!

I have a 1993 J30T with 113,000 miles. I bought it 2 years ago with 98,000 miles.. I have a few problems that I need some help with if possible...
A) ABS light goes on every now and then.. There is a buzzing sound. I disconnect the battery cable and it resets and stops. Does anyone know what I have to do to fix it? Is it easy to do myself?
B) Dash light use to go out every now and then.. I would bang the dash and it would work.. But, last month it just went out. Where do I check and what needs to be replaced?
C) Sunroof doesn't close all the way. And right passenger window stops half way. Do I need to replace the motors?
All help would be appreciated. I want to try to fix myself if possible.. Does the dash board fuse need to be replaced? If so, where is it located? I don't have a owners manual...
Thanks, for your help... appreciated...

Thank you to the comment posted March 8, 2008. You saved my day. I had moved my 1994 J30 out of the garage yesterday turned off for a few minutes and then brought it back in, and this morning it would not start, the engine would turn but not fire. We checked the battery and all electrics and everything was fine, so I was planning on a trip to the mechanic. Decided to check this website and there was my exact situation. I went out and with the gas pedal to the floor turned the ignition and after a few seconds it fired with white smoke out of the exhaust. I've taken it for a good run now but it seems fine so I will know what to do in future.
Thanks again for a great website.

Infiniti J30's can have varnish build up in the throttle body, resulting in rough idle.

Hi all, I own the 93 J30, just like everyone I love my car, but started going through some problems:
1) Headlights going crazy (on--off from left to right side), so I did some research, and found out that this model had several manufacturing defects, with the relay and some electrical problem with the stereo wiring, which heats up and causes a melt down (a short) in the dash board.
How I fixed some of the problems: I replaced the relay that everyones talking about, which I purchased at Infiniti for about $30. bucks, then had to replace the light bulbs. The relay is difficult to remove and put back, if you go to the library and look at a Chilton's repair manual for the Infiniti J30, you can find out where the relay is located. I have not had a problem since.
I also had the problems with, the power windows and sunroof. If you can purchase parts from a used car lot (saves you money), just replace the switch/power panels, very easy they pop out with a flat head screw driver, sometimes they get loose and could cause the sunroof to stop working, just pop it open and see if the connection is loose and put it back in or just replace it. You can do the same with the radio panel. Works fine until the wire heats up and creates another short.
Now, the radio lights don't work, but the radio still works, the CD does not work.
My HICAS light turned on and it's not that I don't have transmission fluid, the HICAS turns off when I'm going up hill. So I'm thinking I need to replace the filter.
Good luck all, don't give up. :)

I have owned my 93 J30 for 15 years. Still looks and runs fantastic. Best car ever. Just now starting to have the dimmer issue and will apply tricks from this site. I have what I believe are cracked exhaust manifolds. Can't find an after market supplier and the dealer wants way too much $$ for them.
Anyone know of any aftermarket supplier?

I bought a 93 J30.The car ran good and for about 8 miles then the car stopped moving. I parked it, put it on drive and pressed on the gas pedal. The car would not move. Now the engine is still on, but no movement from the car. What causes this problem. People are saying transmission. That's just the first problem. So by having the car sitting in the driveway the car is dead. So I buy a new battery. Now the car just cranks no start. I get a guy to look at it and checks the spark plugs, they are OK. A plug next to the spark plug was disconnected, he plugs it in and the car starts. Drove the car the all day that day and the next day back to the very same problem the car won't drive. What is this problem please help me.
