1994 Isuzu Amigo XS 2.6 litre 4 cylinder 2wd from North America

Summary:

A fun and reliable light SUV

Faults:

The clutch needed to be replaced about three months after I bought it.

General Comments:

The overall performance of this light SUV is quite satisfactory.

The biggest complaint I have heard about this vehicle from other owners is that it is light on power with the factory system. This can be easily remedied with some moderately inexpensive after-market products.

While I have heard complaints about fuel economy, I put about $25 worth in the tank only every two weeks.

Spring and summer are bonus seasons; you can drive with the top off, and it only takes fewer than five minutes to replace it.

The backseat is deceptively roomy, and while it can be a chore entering it with the top on, the leg space in the rear bench seating compensates well.

The Amigo is simply a fun vehicle; its reliability and low operating costs make it relatively worry-free in the winter, and summer is fun in the sun!

Hey, I also have a 1998 Amigo and my friends agree with your comment about the back seat leg room. While the Amigo is still a "small" SUV, it is deceptively roomy and offers way more space than other "small" SUVs.

1994 Isuzu Amigo from North America

Summary:

A gas guzzling, unsafe car for all drivers, especially teenaged drivers

Faults:

I had to replace the alternator

fix the electrical wiring in my engine b/c everytime I put the car in reverse, the starter fuse would blow

I had to replace the clutch at 110,000 and the timing belt

I had to buy a new back window.

General Comments:

Gas Hog!!!

Loud

Noisy

Expensive to maintain

Not a guy magnet like I thought it would be

No power at all

Horrible and dangerous blind spots

Not a good teenager car at all... In fact, this car just overall sucks. Do not buy it if you know what is good for you.

I purchased a new 1993 Amigo. Still have it! Best car I have ever had. No break downs, but I KEEP Amigo maintained! Great car for teenagers IF they have common sense to begin with! Both my kids have used my Amigo and had respect for it and had a great time in it. Two of my friends still have their 1992 and 1993 amigos also. One has 140,000 miles. the other 200,000. They have never had any problems, but they ALSO maintain their cars!

My wife and I own both a '90 &'91 Amigo. They were both bought used with approx. 100k miles on them. I will agree with most people- they do get lousy gas mileage, are under-powered and are a bit noisy. They also ride pretty harsh, too. However...I've been places in an Amigo that I didn't think were possible. I've driven through what I thought was only accessible by foot. To me, it's a fair trade-off, for a vehicle that doesn't look like everything else on the road, and is very fun & adaptable!

You obviously did not maintain your vehicle well. I purchased my '94 amigo with 40000 miles and it has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It now has 200000 miles and still going strong with a total of about $3000 dollars of repair bills, over 7 years I would say that is pretty darn good.

The best little SUV I have ever had.

Mine is a 1989, I got it new from dealer. I have over 393,000 miles on it now.

How many cars can get almost 450 miles on a tank full?

How many cars can turn on a dime like the Amigo can? Without having to worry about flip overs like most SUVs out there.

If you take care of your Amigo, it will take care of you.

One big helper was regular oil changes.

This person that didn't like their Amigo must not have cared for it well.
