2000 Jaguar S-Type 4.2 from North America

Summary:

Not a family car. Or a single person car

Faults:

I took my car in for an oil change, and the fail safe engine mode light came on.

Also, the boot light is on, and has been for several weeks.

What's the deal with your cars "Ford". I thank God he allowed the car to fail at the oil change place I had my three children whom are young ages 6, 3, and 5. It would have been very dangerous to walk on the highway.

2000 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 V8 from North America

Summary:

Gorgeous but a total money waster

Faults:

I wish I read this thread before buying my 2000 S Type 4.0.

1- Coils were leaking and burning oil.

2- Sway bar broke.

3- Parking mechanism stuck on incline. I didn't know not to pull... snapped the entire thing.

4- Engine light code P0065 has been on for over 30,000 miles. I got so frustrated with it, I just drive with it on. It goes on and off once in a while, but always the same code.

5- Two Cylinders went bad at same time. Car was bucking, which sounds a lot like the transmission issues some of you think you are experiencing.

6- Make sure you add antifreeze to the reservoir often! The car heats up and literally boils it off over time. Not to mention the original holding tank for the antifreeze cracked and I needed a new one.

I love this car.. but Jaguar dug its own grave. You talk Jag in a crowd.. you get the same response over and over. It's a nightmare to maintain.

2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Beautiful Car, but what a piece of Junk

Faults:

Headlights failed.

Headlight adjustments failed.

Coolant reservoir ruptured twice.

Coils replaced.

Brakes replaced.

Cigarette Lighter shorted.

Quality tires wear quickly, even when balanced/aligned/rotated.

Transmission issues.

Headliner failed/replaced.

General Comments:

I bought my 2000 S-Type a couple of years ago, but I think I'm gonna take a loss and trade it.

Since I've owned the car, it's been one issue after another, from headlights, to coils, brakes, to shorts in the wiring, coolant leaks to... and the list goes on and on...and on...

I hold my breath every day I start the thing, praying it will get me to work and back without any issues.

Such a shame that Jaguar built such a beautiful car of such poor quality.

Even more of a shame that the local Jaguar dealer is so difficult to work with. I've learned to take it to an independent garage to have work done. They've proven to be more reliable and cheaper than the Jaguar dealer, with much less holyer-than-thou attitude.

2000 Jaguar S-Type from North America

Faults:

All of the same problems listed, new transmission, power windows, fuel pump, coils replaced, air conditioner and heater.

Now at 100,000 the failsafe light has come on. I guess I will be buying a new car... it won't be a Jaguar ever!!!

General Comments:

Too expensive to maintain, poorly constructed. No resale value.

Total crap.. my husband warned me not to buy this car. He was right.

2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Class personified at a price

Faults:

Window regulator after window regulator failed, use Lincoln LS part to save money.

Transmission stuck in park and have to "rip" it out on hills. Transmission just acted funny and shifted weird.

Mechanics treat you like a leper.

General Comments:

Head turner and stylish car for sure... we crashed ours and replaced it with a 1976 XJS with a Chevy 350 :)

2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 from North America

Summary:

My wife looks good in it!!!

Faults:

Right now it's at my mechanic's house getting ball joints installed.

Right now the driver's side seat back rest will not move towards the backseat.

This is after the Jaguar shop took the seat out, and said they cleaned some kind of limit switch.

They said if it happens again, it would be $900.00 to fix.

Has anyone ever taken their seat out. I'm going to try myself.

What? Am I going to break it ??

General Comments:

NOTE - When parking on a steep grade, put the car in neutral with your foot on the brake before putting it into park.

This will stop it from becoming locked up.
